This was another beer just selected real quick and once again, I picked wrong. Aroma was good for a bock. It had a strong smell but, I didn’t really pick anything out. Everything else was just OK. I picked it because I like bock beer but, it wasn’t really like anything I have had before. Swing and a miss! joeycapps (1466), Waterdown, Ontario, Canada Aug 31, 2005 Dark copper-bronze w/ frothy, creamy pale tan foam. Sweet, toasted malt aroma w/ notes of dried fruit & light smoke. Medium-to-full-bodied, relatively chewy feel. Flavour is rich & malty w/ a dark, fruity character. Finish is dry & leaves a warm tingle. TheDean (785), MIlwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Aug 19, 2004 Sampled this beer at the Great Taste of the Midwest in Madison WI. A great bock that I ejoyed quite a bit. barenada (211), Georgetown, Indiana, USA Jul 26, 2004 There wasn’t very much smoke, and what there was was the "grapey" kind of smoke that I don’t really care for. To make matters worse, there was no bitterness, only sweetness behind the smoke, and those two flavors clashed quite a bit.
smoosh (523), New Albany, Indiana, USA Mar 28, 2004 Draft - nice deep red body. Flavor deeply malty, with some hop and quite fruity. Mildly smoked. A lot going on there! bkelley68 (467), Lakewood, Ohio, USA Mar 19, 2004 Updated: Jul 29, 2004Deep red/mahogany color. Sweet malty aroma, with a nice little bit of smoke. Full bodied and smooth, with lots of malt and a little hint of plum or raisin. All this malt is backed by a healthy smoke charicteristic that is reminicent of smoked meat. Long malty finish. Very nice. kujo9 (1077), North Ridgeville, Ohio, USA Mar 15, 2004 Updated: Apr 9, 2004Draft at the brew pub: Mohagany Brown w/ a lasting off white head. Malty and clean, toasted malt and very light alcohol; light raisiny character as it warms. Very malty from start to finish, as well as well balanced and clean in the flavor. Alcohol is not noticeable in the flavor. Fuller body w/ low carbonation and light warming from alcohol, but overall not really noticeable. Very good beer IMHO, and a good version of a Doppel w/ the raisiny character, and seems to be very clean and true to style.
