A deep red color with a thick reddish head. Aromas of cherries are pronounced. There is an immediate cherry sweetness on the palate followed by a tart, somewhat sour cherry flavor, with the tartness lingering on the finish. Very well balanced and a powerhouse in terms of strong flavors coming through. Great as an aperitif or a dessert beer. If you enjoy flavored beers this will be one of your favorites!

Thanks to MRomero for bringing this one to me. Thin fleeting white head over a ginger ale colored clear body. Aroma of chocolate covered cherries. Maybe a touch of wet shellac. Tart, light bodied, fruity, sweetness that stays below the surface. Spicy tart. A good one.

So here it is rating # 800, I got something very special and I would not have been able to try it if it was not for BigErn, again many thanks. It’s the regular 11.2 oz bottle, no date. It pours sort of dead with just a tiny bit of white lacing. The color is dark burgundy red with lighter tints at the bottom of the glass and no clarity otherwise. Aroma is cherry balsamic vinegar but the balsamic is not too strong. It’s lightly sour and not really showing much age outside of maybe a reduction in the sourness (but I really cannot tell what it used to smell like anyway). Taste starts off sweet cherry syrup then leads to light balsamic vinegar and faint cocoa before a nice short burst of acidity and sourness that quickly runs away and leaves a lightly dry sour cherry aftertaste. The taste is actually extremely nice once I realize this probably was never meant to be a sour assault on the palate a la the more modern Flanders Reds. It’s actually quite comfortable in providing enough of the sourness but then quickly taking it away from the drinker. At first I was a little disappointed but then I realized this beer is going for something else. After the first sip I was like, aww, it’s not bad but it’s not earth shattering. But after a few more, as I type, my mouth waters for more beer as this long-lasting cherry stays and the palate is so dried out from the burst of sourness at the end of the flavor. The mouthfeel is a bit sticky which adds to the medium body which creates a very felt beer. The carbonation is actual right around average. Can’t tell whether I have convinced myself that this is that good or it really is that good. I even broke out the Rodenbach Grand Cru tulip glass for this, actually I bought this glass with the purpose of using it to drink this beer.

I’m glad I could join in Andrew’s 1000th beer rating. Big thanks to your generosity. Pours a clear orange red with a soapy off-white ring. The aroma is strong and funky with sour, hay, and sugar dominating. Funky barnyard all over with caramel malts and surprisingly alcohol notes present. Sweet flavors. Red fruit, sour, hay, tart, apples. As it warms the flavors become more complex. Earthy tart and tasty. Not the perfect beer I had expected, but quite tasty still.

Thanks Drewbeerme for this extreme rarity. Dirty red with not much of a brown head. Very sour, earty, almost vinegar aroma, dirty fruit sweet, almost like moldy fruit. Sweet cherry flavor with vinegar, semi tart, smoked dirty eartiness. Thin body, no carb. Strong aroma especially of good aged notes, unique flavor, cherry sweet is a little strong.

Rating #1000, 33cl bottle, big thanks to BigErn for this one. pours ruby with not much head. nose has aged notes like port-wine, cherries, and some funk to it. a wonderful aroma. flavor has big sweet cherries at first but a then the notes becomes pretty tart with cherry pits. as it warms the malts take more notice with toffee and sorta rustic and vinegary. really interesting, and hard for me to rate.

Thanks to Springslicker for sharing this beauty. An aroma of sour cherry. A copper brown pour with light lacing. Flavor of cheeries and an off sour that tries to come to a bitter. Good palate with light carbonation. A very good beer. thanks Jay
