Hazy orange coloured with a huge off white head.
Aroma of wood, red wine and berries.
Acidic flavour of berries, wood, red wine and cherries. JorisPPattyn (5155), Antwerpen, Belgium Mar 11, 2006 Deep red amber; good yellowish head, leaving some lace. End of the bottle pours solid hazy. Great Grand Cru nose with both lactic and acetic - AND a touch of fruit extract sweetness, even after all these years. Very good sour-sweet balance in the taste: here the age has done well, even when the MF still betrays the syrupy slickness. Bit of lemony flavour, grapefruit and blood oranges. Very tittilating beer, spritzy and sticky at the same time. I used to hate this beer - the best way of ruining a great Grand Cru. Then again, I expected age to be beneficial to this, and it was. All faults have not been gommed, but now I could drink it - which is a relief from Redbl*dybach jsquire (2086), St. Marys, Ohio, USA Feb 23, 2006 I have no idea where this beer came from or how it got in the back of my fridge. Beautiful deep red color with a spiral galaxy of bubbles in my chalice. As a rule I HATE sour beers, but so far so good. The nose is a cross between sour patch kids candy and cherry flavored cough drops. I still don’t prefer sour beers, but I may be able to get through this one. Lots of sour cherry, Swedish Fish/SweetTart candy, red wine soaked wood, and the sweet/tart flavors like my mom’s home made raspberry currant jelly. The dry finish reminds me of the sensation in the mouth after smoking a sweet cigar. I refuse to admit that I have learned to like sour beers, but this is one hell of a beer. I’m going to see if I have another one somewhere back there. drfabulous (1211), Columbia, Missouri, USA Feb 12, 2006 The best reds come from the Flemish/Belgian area. Duchess is queen. But this one, too, is nice. Light sour taste. Good red color. Worth having.
