Nicely balanced sour cherry & apple flavors lead to a crisp, dry finish. This beer, & Flemish Sour Ales in general, aren't for everyone, but Rodenbach Alexander is an excellent example of the style. jazz88 (2238), San Francisco, California, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 18/20 | Jul 8, 2002 Bottle. A ruby red color with no head. The aroma is at first tart and sour and then a sweet cherry, strawberry, and sour apple aroma takes over. More laid back and had less carbination and zing than the grand cru. This is a wonderful beer. Pigfoot (2226), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA

Bubbly head, and deep, dark cherry red color. Aroma is loud and sweet, projecting a fierce cherry flavor far and wide. Sour cherries! Tantalizing, lively. Not a kriek lambic, but merely a "sour ale" flavored with "cherry essence." And that’s just the thing. It’s simple and consistent. You get sour, you get cherry. I like it, and I can imagine it as an excellent dessert treat, but it’s not the sort of thing you can imagine drinking very often.

Plenty of cherry notes in the aroma with some apparent sour funk. Brett? There is also some cardboardy oxidation detected along with light acetic notes. Nice and aromatic. Murky opaque amber body with virtually no head present. Nice legging and kinda oily. Lightly tart to start with some acidity with lots of sweet cherry flavors present in the middle. Light oxidation present late. Very tasty. Reminiscent of Kasteel Kriek. willblake (2187), Belcamp, Maryland, USA

Deep redtoned brown pour like cherry wine made in 2002. Voluminous khaki head slowly fades leaving lazy pillows of lace about the glass like cloud animals. Aroma is sour, cherries, woody, calvados. Brutally sour first sip is awash in fresh cherries, early season, just picked. Lots of wood, caramel. It’s clean, dry, astringent to a fault to finish. It’s excellent but makes me thirsty for more. Thanks for this special treat, Mike! whaleman (2171), North Wales, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 11, 2005 Mostly clear, orange-amber body with a minimal, sparse off-white head. Pungent and mature aroma with elements of fruity vinegar, prominent wood, young plums, and red wine. Very lively tartness and velvety sweetness with flavors of ripe cherries, fresh figs, and apparent vinegar. Body has some sugary texture and is quite velvety and smooth. Very nice. A million thanks to goldtwins for the opportunity to try this excellent beer.
