Aroma is slight bit of cherries, rustic, and a scent similar to a lambic. Taste is kind of off and medicinal in my honest opinion. I can taste the sour cherries in the aftertaste, but this one I think has been sitting on the shelve for too long. and yes it does taste reminiscent of a jolly rancher. Aroma of sour cherries, light vinegar, and a bit of oak. Taste of more sweet cherries up front, close to cloying, with some wood, cardboard, and a ripe acidic - sour cherry taste in the finish. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Mar 29, 2008 Brandon, Fl. - Kingdom Liquors, 330 ml twist off (?) bottle. Red, cranberry juice like pour with a white-reddish tinted spritzy head. Aroma of sour cherries, cherry icee. Flavor has a delectable sweet and sourness to it. Cherry flavor is very natural and pronounced with just enough sourness to leave your lips puckered and enough sweetness to keep you coming back for more. This stuff is like candy. Sticky mouthfeel. Enjoyed this one. Burrobuns (81), Columbia, Missouri, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 22, 2008 Call me crazy, but I dont taste Jolly Ranchers at all. I generally prefer high alcohol beer, but this really is a nice, easy to drink beer. Definitely different - maybe avoid it if you are in a beer mood, but still worth trying. Cherry flavor dominates without being overwhelming. Wish I could taste the ale more. gueuzeisgod (109), Graham, North Carolina, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 10, 2008 OK- I will reiterate and reinforce the already mentioned Jolly Rancher theme- The cherry esters are a bit synthetic in taste and aroma- sweet, but not quite candy-ish. Not much head. A far cry from a lambic, but has enough tartness to be refreshing. Better than some of the sweetened lambics. Creaminess leads quickly into an astringent mouthfeel that lingers awhile. Dark cherry flavor everywhere. Rodenbach is a quality brewery and has done a good job for this style. I drink this one infrequently, but still keep it in the mix. ¾ (4999), Colorado, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 5, 2008 330ml bottle. Cloudy deep purple and red colored body with a small pink/grey head. Nose is candied sweet cherries, cream, some yogurt yeast, but not too sweet or sugary, thankfully. Flavor is a mixture of moderately sour creamed strawberries and cherries, mildly prickly, a little on the candied/sugary side but not too far. Certainly nothing like a proper kriek or sour beer, but not as bad as I expected. Creamy and frothy, it’s good for what it is. durhambeer (1224), Durham, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 5, 2008 I could write a review, but as others have noted, it tastes like a red Jolly Rancher. Great if that’s what you’re in the mood for. Too sweet to drink often, though, for sure.
