On tap at My Place, Newtown, CT. This beer arrived at the table a clear deep ruby color with a moderate, almost creamy, off-white head. Heavy aroma reminded me more of a cabernet than a beer with lots of grape and oakiness. The flavor is more cherry than grape, with the oak much more subdued than the aroma. A bit sour, but by no means puckering. Also, a bit thin in the mouthfeel. At $6 a glass (8 oz glass at that) it was a bit expensive.

I’ve had better. It looks great with a dark, clear ruby color and tiny-bubbled whitish head. The aroma is a little weaker than I’d like for the style with sour berries only vaguely present. Starts off highly-carbonated but quickly loses its bite as it warms, becoming increasingly watery. Flavor is a bit more sour than I like but still presents a decent ammount of fruitiness. If it didn’t lose so much flavor as it warmed, it would score much higher.

Event: River’s Bend Belgian Workshop / Abbey Dubbel Brewout
Location: Ken’s House
Serving: 750 ml corked and caged bottle.

Tasting Notes
Aroma: Sour and vinegary with a hint of oak and cherries.
Appearance: Clear reddish-honey/amber color with a thin beige head.
Flavor: Almost identical to the aroma. Mild sweetness helps to balance the sourness.
Palate: Smooth and mellow. Medium body. Mild carbonation.
Overall: A good Flemish Sour Ale for those who want to ease into the style. This one has all the great characteristics of a very good sour ale, but they are somewhat muted or reserved and well controlled so that it isn’t overpowering.

Name says it all, this is classic Flemish sour,a true beer lovers delight, sour cherry sucker aroma with hints of the oak and vanilla from the casks, creamy sour cherry taste ,tart but not puckering, again with backing flavors of the oak, just a touch lighter then the Grand Cru, absolutely wonderful, seems like it should be a spring type brew, understand it will soon be available in Wisconsin

One of the most solid true sours out there. Deep dark reddish brown with a thick body. Sour apples and cherries with a hint of oak in there. It’s definitely not along the musty, funky lines that I tend to prefer - and there’s a sweet, syrupy note right through the middle - but this is a drinkable, earthy, classic sour.

Bottle at home. Cola colour. Sour nose. Nicely textured. Cherry and fruit flavour. Sour and tart finish. Definitely for the fan of this type of beer.

This beer is very yum-yum. It is unique. It is sour and tart and refreshing and crisp, not too thick or complicated, but one can tell that time was put into the brewing and it is quality. Yum!
