| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 30, 2006 Draught - It’s the right color with a huge tan head. Smells less roasted and more hoppy than traditional style but that is to be expected. Pretty hoped for an alt with a bit of roastedness coming through at the end. Not an alt except by color description and maybe grain bill. But still a decent beer that would also be a good session beer. muzzlehatch (4427), Burlington, Vermont, USA
| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Sep 18, 2006 Draught sample at The Brew Kettle in Strongsville, OH, early August 2006. Dark near-opaque caramel color with a lasting bit of off-white head....caramel malts fight with thick PNW hops in the nose, allowing faint hints of cherry and dry orangepeel through...surprisingly bland and watery on the tongue, very low carbonation, little malt presence and the hops kill everything that could possibly make you think of an altbier. Which as far as I can tell, this isn’t. ross (1709), weddington, South Carolina, USA

Not really that good. I asked for a sample of it, and I didnt think enough of it to even finish the sample. Brown yellow color, some hops, some malts, not really much going on here. The foothills I drank was way better, more flavor and more body to it than this. Probably not something I will revisit. duff (5475), Surrey, Greater London, England

Some nice subtle nuttyness, with soome lightly dry grassy hops in the finish. very drinkable, but it feels very ironed out, and quite clean, which is probably a good thing, but i think something is missing from this alt. Its a very drinkable alt though. pbjclimber (150), Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 28, 2006 Tap: Pours a clear mahogany color. Taste is of a little water malt back ground with a bitter finish. The hops are very prolific in this beer, but nto in a bad way. willblake (2187), Belcamp, Maryland, USA

Kudos to whoever at HDG decided to bring in this winner of an alt. The stuff is alt-colored (ha!), a dingy copper with dirty beige head. Overall, it’s dry, malty, and simple with plenty of my favorite black pepper notes highlighting the generously earthy hop profile. Spicy, stark, and lovely. antzman (313), Clarksville, Indiana, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Aug 27, 2006 Draft at Rich O’s. Pours a murky amber with a full off-white head. It has a very malty aroma, almost breadlike. The flavor is very malty but closes with a slightly bitter hop finish. Not a bad beer, but not a great one either. I think I have found a style I really do not care for. JoeMcPhee (5030), Jackson Heights, New York, USA
| 1.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 6/20 | Aug 19, 2006 Tap at Hop Devil Grill. Hazy amber beer, thin-tan head. Aroma is lightly smoky, some woody/mushroomy aroma. Poor soapy flavour though. Thin and watery. Meh, take a pass on this and grab a Ruination.
