Nose is beautiful, smokey, burnt chestnut with a hint of grassy hops- strange combination but it works. Super caramelesque taste with strong hops in the beginning that gives way to some rich, coffee style maltiness, then finishes bitter again at the end and lingers. This is a seriously complex taste that I didn’t expect from this brew at all. I slept on Rogue brewery for a while, but this and Dead Guy Ale have really turned me into a Rogue fan. Fantastic brew that will surprise the hell out of you if you don’t expect much from it. blipp (1748), Newark, New Jersey, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 22, 2008 Bottle. Pours amber with a peach colored head. Caramel malt aroma with grassy and floral hop notes. Medium body. Flavor has a nice inital bite of floral hops, then cools down with a nice caramel malt note. Finish has a nice lingering bitterness. stankenk (130), Maplewood, Minnesota, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jun 22, 2008 Pours a tannish-red color. The nose is strong with hints of coffee & possible dates. Coffee tends to be the over powering flavor. It finishes with a mildly hoppy after taste. puboflyons (622), New Hampshire, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 15/20 | Jun 21, 2008 From a 12 fl. oz. bottle with no lot code or expiration date present. Pours a handsome ruby red-brown color. Impressive. The aroma of malts is strong and pleasing. I do notice the coffee aroma but it is not as obvious. Decent mouth feel. The taste has some malts but tends to lean more toward hoppy.. I think the coffee is also more noticeable there. It definitely has the characteristic of a bitter IPA but its complexities make it unique and enjoyable. leninthedesert (112), Nevada, USA
