This beer is very straightforward but perfectly balanced. Apples, slight citrus, bright hops (like in a Harvest), and the odd texture and sweetness of rice milk. A very nice bottle. cking (1041), North Canton, Ohio, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 6, 2008 Single sample from a newly discovered bottle shop. Great looking dark amber color with thick copper highlights. A steadfast thick khaki head and tons of lacing, this beer looks great. Aroma of toffee and floral hops, inviting and calm. Filling with a fresh malty body, mellow aftertaste that is lightly bitter. Real tasty flavor, lots of caramel and toffee notes along with some fresh toast and the signature Rogue yeast flavor. Fruity notes from the ample helping of green floral hops. Well hopped for an amber, this is bordering an ESB in style. Real nice offering from a great brewery. topher40409 (36), gainesville, Florida, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 4, 2008 Bottle. Pours a brilliant amber with red hues, nice tight white head that lasted the entire drink, with lacing all the way down the glass. A very floral nose of grassy hops with a good bit of caramel malt. The taste was much the same. started with the bitterness and taste of citrus hops then led to a subtle caramel malt quickly followed by the lingering taste of hops. A very well put together beer, but not really true to the amber ale style. mgumby10 (1858), Jupiter, Florida, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 4, 2008 Pours an amber color with a medium frothy light khaki head. Smells of caramel malt and hops. Pretty simple. The flavor was much more hoppy than I was expecting, almost seemed too much for an amber. Still was pretty nice drinking, went down easy and smooth with a decent hop bitterness in the finish and lingering aftertaste. Not their best work, but certainly drinkable. spikester (602), Salem, Oregon, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 30, 2008 Updated: Mar 19, 2009I should rate this lower as it is too hopped for an Amber but I enjoyed it. Good APA type though. Poured amber with modest head and some lacings.
Big citrus hop flavor with malts playing second fiddle. Bitter dry finish, slight metallic sensation on back of the tongue.
Aroma is floral.
I just had the Red Fox bottle with the Japanese writing on it only to find it is the American Amber. No disapointment for me though. Cool bottle and good amber ale. FishManLA (300), Abita Springs, Louisiana, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Apr 27, 2008 Lots of beers use the word "Amber" in their name, and this is, of course an amber ale. However, I don’t think I’d ever before seen a beer that was *exactly* the color of "amber". I mean the substance that the color is named after; that you see dead pre-historic bugs trapped in in the museum. This beer is precisely that color! Amazing! It’s a foggy amber. Tan head that dissipates at a moderate rate. Nose is yeasty and uncomplex. Flavor and finish are almost entirely generic hops. It’s a tasty and drinkable brew, to be sure. However, this one is not nearly the standout that some of Rogue’s other awesome and incredible brews are. mgoy (343), Oak Brook, Illinois, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Apr 26, 2008 Rogue American Amber is a cloudy blood orange beer with a very nice and airy light mocha head. The aroma is full of hopps and flowering plant. The flavor is also very hoppy with a little bit of a sour hint. carruthm (1179), Seattle, Washington, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Apr 26, 2008 Amber coloured (surprise) with a white head. Very fragrent with hops, caramel, floral with some fruity tones and butterscotch. Taste doesn’t quite live up to the excellent aroma with a lot of bitter.
