| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 6, 2007 Pours a light, murky brown like a root beer float. The head is spare, creamy and off-white, diminishing quite quickly. The nose is nice departure from the typical amber. While the typical caramel notes come forward, in the aroma, there is a faint cocoa and a more pronounced spicy/fruity hop presence in the nose. The mouthfeel is medium-bodied and slick with a dry, bitter finish. Solid, sweet caramel malts front a nice roasted dry finish. The aftertaste lingers a bit too dry for my tastes and kept this from being 3.5 or higher. The flavor is clearly superior to most of the ambers that I’ve sampled, but overall, the finish keeps this from being a beer that I’ll want to buy again. Thanks for sharing this one with me, Don. badnewsbeers (1026), Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA

Quite malty nose with a good dash of beef-stock, along with fruityness and piney hops. Some dried fruit in the flavor, with beef-stock and other umami notes. Full, a bit sweet mouthfeel. Malty and piney finish. A quite nice beer, but a bit too malty I think. 070512 TheLeadDog (101), Kent, Washington, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 29, 2007 Bottle. Pours translucent ruby color with thick khaki head. Big malt nose - caramel, tobacco- with background of spicey floral hops. Flavor is citrus hops; taste of sour grapefruit, pine resin. IMO hops are balanced very well with lightly toasted amd caramel- flavored malt.
