| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Apr 10, 2007 Draft... Very dark, cloudy, caramel-colored lager when held up to light... otherwise, black with a small, creamy, white head. Good retention. Leans heavily on the bitter side of balance. Deep roasted barley and grapefruit with hints of caramel malts and smoke phenols. Full-bodied and astringent with lively carbonation. Lengthy, bitter finish. ¾ (4999), Colorado, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 25, 2008 Draft @ RFD. Dark brown with some murky light at the bottom. Nose of coarse grains, toast, some sweet chocolate liqueur, and the flavor is a mixture of twang, some chocolate sweetness, and some sharp alcohol notes (less than 6%??). Fuesal, perhaps. Not bad, a bit hoppy, which is typical for Rogue, and I like the house character as much as I always have with Rogue. I’d drink it again. BückDich (4847), McCall, Idaho, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jul 1, 2007 Tap @ Bittercreek (a while ago). This was from about January that I had this pint. Poured a murky brown color with no head and very little lacing. The nose was spicy and full of sharp yeast, moderate roast and bright acidic nutty notes. Moderate yeastiness and hops in the flavor but it blended towards the light chocolate and coffee notes of the roasted malts. The finish was clean, but sharp. A bit offputting with the pacman yeast. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 10, 2008 Draft at Capone’s. Pours deep brownish black with tan head. Aroma is roasty dark malty, with chocoff notes and resiny hop wafts. The taste is roasty malty, with some licorice, chocolate, and a hop presence that is rather assertive and remains throughout the beer’s lifespan. | 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | May 7, 2007 On tap at The Sanctuary in Iowa City. This poured with a near black body that had ruby coloring on the edges. The thick head was a light tan color. The aroma was hoppy with some grapefruit and pine resin. There was also some fresh cut hard wood. The taste was fairly bitter with grapefruit rind and a dry woody finish. There was also a note of almond shells. Body was medium thick and somewhat chewy. This was an unbalanced hop bomb. No thanks.
