On tap at Issaquah brewhouse then ceramic bottle in June 2008. Amazing! Fresh spicy hop nose, thick heavy caramel balance. dark chestnut brown, slightly sandy head that clung to the glass. this really is incredible. there’s an amazing complexity to the caramel, roasted, bread, and raw grain base that puts up a great fight before succumbing to the tingly spicy dense hops. next time i drink this, it’ll be along side some of my other favorite ASAs. at 20 bucks a bottle, maybe i find this better than it is because of its price.

Draft at Piper’s Creek. Pours deep grainy mahogany brownish/black with a dense, moussy dark tan head. Big sharp resiny bitterness asserts itself immediately on the nose.Thickish, grainy body with firm carb and biscuity underlay. Washes of resiny bitterness in every direction throughout the quaff. A bit one-dimensional with the overweening hop, but tasty.

Pours a dark brown with ruby highlights and a tan head that leaves a little lace on the glass. The aroma has some chocolate but is big and bold with citrusy hops. The flavor follows the nose: big, spicy, citrusy hops combined elegantly with sweet roasted malts with hints of chocolate and caramel. Wow! This was an amazingly balanced beer - great big citrus hops but meticulously balanced by a lovely malt backbone. On tap at the Issaquah Brewhouse.

Draft at the Rogue Public House in Astoria - Poured very a dark and cloudy amber in color with reddish notes and a medium tan head. Aroma was of piney hops. Flavor was also very hoppy and medium bitter right to the end. This is a really good beer... I hope they start to ship this East soon!

Draught: Very hoppy aroma. Smells floral, with notes of citrus and a bit of soy sauce. Poured dark dark dark ruby in color (almost black), with a medium, rocky, tan head that lasted throughout. Excellent lacing. Sparkling. Flavor is medium bitter, and very complex. Tastes hoppy with notes of pine and resin followed by roasted, toasted, and smoked malt flavors and a hint of soy sauce. Medium to full body. Dry texture. Average carbonation. Dry, complex, malt finish. Overall, interesting and quite tasty.

Side trip to Rogue Ales in Newport, Oregon during ABA Beer Tour ’07. On draught at the brewery’s tap room (second level). Pours an opaque dark brown brew with a thin off-white head that quickly dissolves to a few bubbles. Aroma is of thick pine forest, citrus zest and some caramel malt. The hop infusion was over-powering in the aroma. Taste is light carbonated, medium to full bodied with more citrus and smoked pine flavors. Finish is very dry and more pine aftertaste. This could be considered a new beer catagory. Dark Double IPA?

Draught at Popeyes. Pours dark with minimal head. Aroma of citrus hops and pine, very pleasent. Tasty hop flavor with pine stronger than the citrus, though it’s still there. Finishes pretty bitter. Very good ale, suprisingly delicious.
