3/14/06 at Dilly Deli on tap. Dark mahogany color, clean and clear. Very thin head. Aroma of hops, citrus, and dark malts. Flavor much of the same: citrus, hops, a bit nutty though after reading the description, I expected more. This does have a bitter bite to it. Not bad. I might have rated this higher had I not had the special cask conditioned two hearted ale first.

Draft at Dilly Deli with Shigadeyo, on the third stop of our pub crawl. Pours dark brown with a thin head. Aroma of citrus hops and caramel. Flavor of piney and spicy hops with a nutty and caramel backbone. A moderate hop bite on the clean finish. Not a bad brew, and the description of Double Dark IPA fits well

3/06/2007 at Dilly Deli with illinismitty... This was described as "Rogue’s Anniversary Brewer Double Dark IPA" (or something to that effect). I had never heard of a "Double Dark IPA" before, but somehow managed to have two different ones in the same evening (Barrel House Boss Coss Double Dark IPA and this one from Rogue)... Nearly opaque, but clean very dark amber color with crimson hues. The aroma is hoppy and vibrant with notes of orange citrus and some lightly caramelized malt underneath. The flavor is like an IPA mixed with a Nut Brown Ale as there was some nutty maltiness to it, but that malt base was a bit overshadowed by the hop flavors (citrus, pine, grapefruit) and bitterness (somewhat aggressive). Medium body, well carbonated, and pretty good on the palate. I am glad that I was able to try this beer and enjoyed it, but I was only able to have one pint and decided that it was enough (unlike the Barrel House Double Dark IPA that I could have downed pint after pint!). I liked the flavor and all, but I guess this beer just seemed a bit one dimensional to me... 16 oz draught.

Pours a very dark brown with a light white head. Pretty nice hoppy, floral aroma with some dark malts as well. Taste is a very nice blend of hops up front which turn into roasted malts and chocolate towards the finish. Kind of resembles a hoppy porter. Its somewhat bitter towards the finish, but relatively smooth. Pretty good though.

Draft. Pours very dark brown/black with a light brown head. Strong roasted malt aroma with some hops. Taste is very chocolatey with roasty malts, coffee, and a super long, bitter finish. This was delicious and one of the best Rogues I’ve had.

Draft at KClinger’s. Dark brown. The big hoppy nose doesn’t jive with the visual. This is a big, hoppy beer ... a double IPA-like punch. Resiny, oily. Outstanding strong beer. (#2651, 1/14/07)

On tap at Crunchy’s, East Lansing. John’s Locker series...deep reddish brown body with minimal head...clean piney/grapefruit hop aroma with a large sugary backbone..flavor is of a light floral hop profile, is somewhat herbal, and finishes slighlty nutty..hints of caramel present..
