Deep brown color with an ivory head. Big resiny hop aroma with green onion, pine, oranges. Extremely bitter with pine, orange and floral note. Very strange IPA that looks like a porter.

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 1, 2006 Cask at HDG. Pours a hazy deep brown with amber highlights and a frothy lasting head. Aroma is very hoppy- lots of mint, pine, and citrus- orange peel. Sweet sticky malts, lots of caramel, some chocolate, nutty, more toffee sweetness, lots of piney citrus notes and a smooth bitter finish. Nice full mouthfeel and goes down easy. Great American Strong Ale. RollinHard (763), Fort Worth, Texas, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 30, 2006 Draft at Flying Saucer Addison: Pour looked dark, with a tan head, but the beer had some see-through red hues to it. Aroma was hoppy, but my nose was a bit stuffed, and I couldn’t detect too much. It was a tangy hop quality though. But the flavor? WOW. This is an intense hoppy taste that attacked my tongue harder than most IIPAs or hoppy barleywines. Malty flavors were mild, and hidden until the beer warmed up a bit, but they taste like black coffee. So yeah, you have bitter black coffee flavors to balance out a bitter hop onslaught. Just a crazy and demanding experience all around. I was surprised that the mouthfeel was at a medium level, but even then I had to take my time with this. A very bleak beer for sure, bitterness balancing bitterness. brewblackhole (1385), Muskego, Wisconsin, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 28, 2006 Pint at Summits in ATL - Aroma is pure hops plain and simple. Pours dark brown with a medium head and great lacing. Flavor is citrus, floral, and piney hops. I think they are all there. A bit of burnt malt in the back at a vain attempt to balance it out. Palate is tart, sticky, and tart. A hop heads dream and quite tasty. decaturstevo (2010), decatur, Tennessee, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 27, 2006 A black pour with almost no head or lace. A malty citrus aroma with a hint of chocoffe. A nice sharp had hop and toasted malt bitter. A slightly sweet wisp on the initial sip that slips to a hard bitter. I couldn’t wait long enough for it to warm to ideal drinkng temp. It was good. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 26, 2006 Draught --> Flying Saucer. Good strong American Ale with plenty of good hoppy flavor. Nice malty backbone too but it’s the hops that make this one shine. Plus as a lab owner myslef, how can I not dig it?
