Pours a very dark garnet/chocolate color with a fluffy caramel head. Malted cherry and hop nose. Fluffy head that leaves nice lacing. Lots of bubbles on the pour. Luscious mouthfeel. Strong hop profile (the amarillo are a bonus) with a sweet chocoate and cherry flavor. Hoppy aftertaste. Get this beer if you can - it is outstanding! Braudog (3788), Dayton, Ohio, USA

This is a big, hoppy beer ... a double IPA-like punch. Resiny, oily. Outstanding strong beer. (#2651, 1/14/07) phiconners (125), Massachusetts, USA

| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Feb 10, 2004 Dusky brown color, thick and sturdy, creamy tan head, bubbly and inviting. The nose gets a treat, too: rich and sweet, awash in fruit, roasty chocolatey-ness, and spices.
It's invigorating in the mouth as well, fantastically hoppy, hugely malty, roasty coffe-ish flavors rise up in the palate, and coats the realm of the senses. Full flavored, never-ending finsh, with the this magnificent brew resting comfortably in the mouth, ushering in pleasure after pleasure. Reminds me of fine Belgian dubbels, though for some reason I was lead to believe it was a doppelbock. Never expect the expected from Rogue, that's a fine lesson to learn, even after 15 years. Hoppy but flat, back of the mouth melding with the chalkiness of the malt. Not sweet. A spectacular beer, and I am far from the world's biggest Rogue fan. Original: This is a very fine beer. Bears a relationship (high alpha acidity) to the hops in Batch 6000, very piney, but the whole blending is not as sweet as Batch 6000. Woody elements, fairly hefty carbonation levels, slight metallic bits. Grapefruit. Delicious. Thanks Jeff! DeadGuyFrank (347), http://westchesterbeer.com, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Feb 10, 2008 Super tasty, super unique...as usual the Rogue standard PacMan yeast stands out. The hops are a nice touch to a real nice caramel malt backbone that hints at a mix of a Belgian dubbel and a English bitter, with a great Oregon touch! A real gem!! lilannie (384), State College, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jan 18, 2004 Aroma: pineapple, mangos, and guava juices with hints of smokiness and dark malts.
Appearance: very dark and thick with a full, tan head.
Flavor: burst of burnt carmel and dark chocolate flavors with a hint of fruitiness--similar to the fruitiness in cough syrup
Palate: hops bite my tongue from front to back and all the way down. smooth, carbonated beginnings with a crisp finish. Smokey, chocolate, hoppy aftertaste.
Overall: although i don't prefer a hoppy beer, this is a very good example of a beer with a great combination of hoppiness and darkness (kind of like a combination of a stout and IPA)...by filling the aroma with a multitude of tropical fruit flavors, they did enough to tease me to try their beer--kudos to them on this one!
