Commercial Description:
Brutal combines Oregon hops with English Malts. The Oregon grown Crystal hop is a triploid variety developed from the German Hallertau aroma hop variety with contributions from Cascade, Brewers Gold, and Early Green. Crystal is the only hop used in brewing Brutal and it provides a massive amount of aroma without dry-hopping. The English malts used are floor malted Pipkin (a mellow cross of Maris Otter and Warboys, from an English company called Beeston), Cara Vienna and Cara Wheat.

Cascade hops predominant....Mmmmm. Pours a nice copper colour, with an off white head. Clean palate, with good hop flavour & aroma. Well balanced. Nice.

A very nice aroma of cascade hops. A fairly hazy brown/red brew, but not too thick and not too much of any one colour, sort of an inbetween. Nice and thick on flavor, the hops are definately prevalent all the time with only some crystal malt flavouring. Quite nice.

Bouteille de 650ml, acheté au LCBO de Rideau et King edward (Ottawa) le 19 avril 2009. Cuivre pale, moyen collet. Arome d’agrume houblonné, pas très amère. Bon goût d’houblon mi-sucré, céréal muslique, agrume, légèrement amère. C’est rare que ce style est bonne et ça c’est l’une d’elle!

Bottle poured to glass. Clear copper colored brew with a rocky off white head. Crisp and dry on the palate. Sharp hops to balance. Citrusy like grapefruit in the aroma and bitters. Very good bitters. strong and crisp. refreshing.

12 oz bottle purchased as a single at Olive or Twist in Platte City, Missouri. Pour is hazed cloudy copper brown with a thick and firm two inch off white head. Nice patchy lacing, unfiltered looking. Aroma of bright pine hops, mineral grainy maltiness and the Rogue yeast. A nice earthy floral thing going on as well. Fresh, though somewhat subdued nose. Taste is grainy malt initially, with the floral earthy pine hop soon behind. There is some sweetness, which is somewhere in the cereal, caramel, honey sweetness realm. The finish is dry and mineral, with more earthiness. Palate is unfiltered, without tasting dirty. Thin to medium bodied, nice and drinkable.

12 oz bottle at the Rake, 14th April 09. Hazy mid amber with a white head. Lively palate, tingles on the tongue. Very hoppy at first sip and as you drink more, you get a nice lingering bitterness, without any harshness. Overall an enjoyable and balanced beer.

Surprised I haven’t tried this yet. Mild blunt hop aroma. Almost looks like a darker hefe. Even has things casually floating inside and they are suspended. The carbonation is fine and rolling, moving around the particulates. Good carbonation on the palate. Taste is bitter alright but less than I espected. Its not overwhelming. Medicinal bitter feeling develops as the session nears the end. Back and roof of mouth bitter finish.
