Commercial Description:
Brutal combines Oregon hops with English Malts. The Oregon grown Crystal hop is a triploid variety developed from the German Hallertau aroma hop variety with contributions from Cascade, Brewers Gold, and Early Green. Crystal is the only hop used in brewing Brutal and it provides a massive amount of aroma without dry-hopping. The English malts used are floor malted Pipkin (a mellow cross of Maris Otter and Warboys, from an English company called Beeston), Cara Vienna and Cara Wheat.

(Draught at Stockholm Beer Festival, 26 Sep 2009) Amber colour with foamy, beige head. Malty, fruity nose with caramel, toffee, orange and lots of fresh hops. Malty, fruity taste with notes of orange, caramel, dried fruit and a generous citrussy bitterness in the finish. Medium body, balanced sweetness. Fresh hop character but the bitterness isn’t quite as brutal as expected (but then I had Moylans Hopsickle just before this one). Very nice beer though.

355 bottle. Finland. Hazy reddish brown colour with almost no head. Sweetish yeasty and hoppy aroma. Bitter hoppiness in flavour with some sweetness, grapefruit and hoppy bitter aftertaste. Very Rogue-like brew.

An old staple in the Rogue family and well deserved. Easy to find. Reliable solid bitter, hoppiness just right for what it is. Not a pale ale, but a cousin.

A nice solid bitter, good hoppiness backed by a nice malt body. Really enjoyable and pretty sessionable.

Bottle, 12 fl. oz. Pours a clear golden beer with an offwhite head. The aroma is hops (chinook), and the flavor follows the nose. The palate is bitter. and overall a good beer.

Bottle: pint glass: Quality Meats NYC: taking a time out from the office with Pwn3d and RickyRicardo... Pours a hazy orange/ medium amber leaving a finger of dry white head. Nose rocks, nice young summer fruits/ citrus. The taste is complex, yet body is light... making me wish I was able to enjoy the killer burger with the brew (instead of at my desk!). The hops are strong and bitter, dry and crisp balanced by the fruit tones and malts.

Bottled enjoyed at quality meats with CUJO and RickyRicardo. Burgers are epic here by the way. Pours hazy tangerine, white head atop. Nose is an incredible musky tangerine, hop, and apricot. Taste is same with bitter tang.

Pours lovely deep golden with an almost orange/pink hue, big, dense, white fluffy head. Aroma is fantastic, really zesty with subtle amount of spice, lots of citrus, classic pink grapefruit, cut grass, some tropical fruits, passion fruit? Lychee? Sweet florals. Flavour is delightful, more citrus, orange zest, lemon, light ginger notes and more ripe pink grapefruit, very clean and crisp with a hint of spice, no sign of the almost 7% abv. Refreshing with the right amount of dryness. Palate is soft and creamy. All finishes very refreshing, pretty dry and spicy. The beer is deceptively complex, it comes across a straight forward refreshing glugger, but spend time with it and the depth keeps increasing, easy going but a great beer.
