Commercial Description:
Brutal combines Oregon hops with English Malts. The Oregon grown Crystal hop is a triploid variety developed from the German Hallertau aroma hop variety with contributions from Cascade, Brewers Gold, and Early Green. Crystal is the only hop used in brewing Brutal and it provides a massive amount of aroma without dry-hopping. The English malts used are floor malted Pipkin (a mellow cross of Maris Otter and Warboys, from an English company called Beeston), Cara Vienna and Cara Wheat.

Solid ESB, but missing something in translation. The hops are prevelant, but not distinctive

Aroma hits you right away. Great bitter taste (heaven). The only downside is a little lingering chalkiness afterwards, but still a great beer.

A golden orange ale with a thick creamy off white head. Aroma of floral hops, chlakey notes, a bit of cave and green pepper. In mouth, a good grainy malt with subdued coffee and good British hops, sustained in mout, medium bodied. LCBO offering.

Citrusy American hops in a Brittish style ESB - nice twist and quite good. The hop flavors dominate and create a chewy mouth feel. This one leaves some flem in the back of my throat. But it’s still very drinkable and worth revisiting.

A decent beeer. A slight bitter finish with a somewhat smokey flavor and nose.

Didn’t realise yanks could make beer like this. Not overly hopped with the garish US grapefruity pine resin varieties, but nicely balanced and hoppy all the same. Bit pricey but a definite beer to be revisited. Pretty damned good rendition of a British Style. Will definitely have to pay more attention to US brews from hereon. Apologies for the late start.....intend to make up for lost time.

Something odd, bu tnot unpleasant, like commercial mushrooms, among the sugar and citrus. Made a big light yellow head in my glass that lingers a long time over a clear greenish amber, a mix of textures in the mouth & aromatic. The hops are kinda blunt, tongue-numbing, I taste grapefruit, alcohol, smoke.

12 oz. bottle. Pours an opaque brownish-copper color with a medium off-white head. Bitter indeed as it first hits the front and middle of the tongue then it mellows out into more of a floral flavor on the finish. A balanced aroma of hops and malt before actually drinking. Bitter finish as well w/ a hint of caramel. Medium bodied. Pretty good.
