Commercial Description:
Brutal combines Oregon hops with English Malts. The Oregon grown Crystal hop is a triploid variety developed from the German Hallertau aroma hop variety with contributions from Cascade, Brewers Gold, and Early Green. Crystal is the only hop used in brewing Brutal and it provides a massive amount of aroma without dry-hopping. The English malts used are floor malted Pipkin (a mellow cross of Maris Otter and Warboys, from an English company called Beeston), Cara Vienna and Cara Wheat.

On tap at Portland Intl airport. Aroma: citrus, piney Flavor: Like the aroma plus caramel malt, lots of piney resinous hop. Comments: Balanced malt and hop is not the goal here--lives up to its name. I tend to prefer a lot of rogue’s other ales as they do a great job with their malts.

Bottle. Pours hazy orange with a dank, dense white head. Powerful aroma of hops, citrus, spice, and hints of malt. Full body with a clean, bitter aftertatse. Awesome BRUTAL bitter.

Bomber into a pint glass. Good pour with a thick and dense meringue-like head, complete with peaks. Big citrus hops mixed with sweet malts in flavor and aroma.

Bottle. Pours hazy orange with a fluffy white head which leaves lots of lace. Aroma is very hoppy and has hints of caramel, musk and citrus. Flavour is also hoppy with citrus and caramel as well as touches of spice and earthiness. Very smooth, almost creamy, mouthfeel. This is a great beer from Rogue, excellently balanced, shows off the hops in their best possible light.

Bottle; can’t believe I haven’t gotten around to trying this one. Poured a pretty pure orange color with a big fluffy, off white head. Aroma of caramel malt, biscuit and fruity, citrus hops. Flavors was really great for its style; deserves its lofty rating in my opinion. Citrus and spice/earthy, with a good balance of fruit and a good tasting caramel. Could drink this one all day (especially a summer day)
