Commercial Description:
Brutal combines Oregon hops with English Malts. The Oregon grown Crystal hop is a triploid variety developed from the German Hallertau aroma hop variety with contributions from Cascade, Brewers Gold, and Early Green. Crystal is the only hop used in brewing Brutal and it provides a massive amount of aroma without dry-hopping. The English malts used are floor malted Pipkin (a mellow cross of Maris Otter and Warboys, from an English company called Beeston), Cara Vienna and Cara Wheat.

Smells of fragrant hops and malt, pours with little head into a medium caramel color. I wouldn’t call the bitterness "brutal", but it is bitter and filled with a complex hop flavor. Goes down smooth and doesn’t tickle your throat. Doesn’t quite live up to its name and a bit pricey, but it’s a great tasting beer.

Draught at Circa. Really nice, medium orange color, lots of hop varieties are pronounced, by the time I finished trying to pick them out, my beer was all gone.

650 ml bottle from Bev4less. Pours a cloudy orange gold color with a big clumpy white head. The aroma is strong with citrus, pine and caramel. The flavor is hops forward with plenty of biter hops surrounded by grapefruit, sweetened pink lemonade and a touch of caramel. The mouthfeel is full and malty. The finish is medium in duration with lingering caramel. Overall: My only complaint with this beer is that it is not brutally biter--its not even close. That aside its good stuff. Recommended.

Bottle... Poured a brilliant, foggy orange with a huge white head that lasted forever. Aroma of malt and bread. Palate is thick with carbonation, lots of hops and barley-grain flavors and some mild alcohol presence. Smooth and easy to drink.

12 oz bottle into a pint glass. Pours a hazy, golden orange with a nice off white head. Smells of malty hops. Not too sweet, but very hoppy. Taste is smooth with hops present. Much more bitter than traditional esb. Does not register as anything special, despite hefty price tag. Nice feel in mouth, but nothing special.

I liked this beer. I tried it 6/6/06 at a bar in portland waiting for a metal concert. Very bitter and brutal.

22oz purchased from LCBO in Grimsby. Nice, but slightly restrained hoppy aroma. First taste is rich, with nice fruity hops. Very nicely balanced. Pretty much exactly what I was hoping for. More fruitiness in the hops than most IPAs, but not lacking in overall hop bitterness. Interesting to read that the only hop used is Crystal from Oregon.
