Commercial Description:
Brutal combines Oregon hops with English Malts. The Oregon grown Crystal hop is a triploid variety developed from the German Hallertau aroma hop variety with contributions from Cascade, Brewers Gold, and Early Green. Crystal is the only hop used in brewing Brutal and it provides a massive amount of aroma without dry-hopping. The English malts used are floor malted Pipkin (a mellow cross of Maris Otter and Warboys, from an English company called Beeston), Cara Vienna and Cara Wheat.

Bomber. Great beer. Looks like an IPA, hazy golden amber with big off-white head. Smell is of hops and biscuit malts. I’m glad it’s not as hoppy as I was expecting. This beer has a wonderful mouthfeel that is light and creamy. The finish is nice. It does not have a terribly bitter end like an IPA, but the hops are present........Don’t know why I’m comparing it to an IPA.?? Another great session ale IMO.

650ml Bottle: Pours pumpkin orange in colour, cloudy, with a very large white head that stayed a while and left terrific lacing on the glass. Aroma of brown sugar, black pepper, grapefruit, and pine needles. Flavour is heavy on those grapefruity citrus hops, yeast, ju-jubes (!), and brown sugar. Just on the brink of IPA but not as hoppy. Still, another great Rogue offering and a surprising find in the LCBO!

Bomber from the LCBO (bless you), served cool in a tulip glass.

App.: Hazy orange-amber, moderate off-white foam. Aroma: Caramel/toffee sweetness, a good dose of citrus/pine hops, tropical fruit and berry esters. Palate: Medium body, medium-full quasi-effervescence, slick. Flav.: Lots of big citrus/pine hops, rye bread crust, some of the tropical fruits, burnt sugar, a bit of dough/yeast; dry with a fairly nice bitter bite.

Lovely stuff. I hope the LCBO will stock more quality American craft brews.

Hazy orangey yellow with quite creamy pale head. Nice lacing. Nose is sweet tropical fruits, strawberries and flowery hops. Flavor well hopped with beautiful fruity tones and very balanced bitterness. Finishes bitter and flowery. Mouthfeel almost sorbet like, medium to full bodied and smooth as hell. A great IPA in my book.

Impressive hop aromas and bittering lead this medium-full bodied ale. Slight grassy finish is pleasant over clean yeasty fruitiness and caramel. Another total winner from the Rogue.

This ale poured a cloudy, light orange colour with a nice, thick, creamy head. To the nose there are scents of full bodied hopps, yeast, citrus and grassy notes. First sip was smooth and a palate shocker. Very flavourful with flavours of pine, orange citrus and hopps. The finish was very pine flavoured with a palate that was the perfect bitterness. Great thurst quencher!

650 mL bottle from the LCBO. (The malts listed on the bottle don’t quite match those listed in the "Commercial Description" above.) Translucent amber-orange with a huge, thick, sticky beige head. The aroma is mostly hops: fresh sweet citrus and a little earthiness. Some cara-malt in there as well. The hops are there in the flavour as well, with slightly tangier citrus and pine being the most obvious flavours. And loads of tobacco. There is enough malt here to keep this from swinging into IPA territory. Nice bitterness at the end. Medium body and carbonation. Not bad. An American take on the premium bitter.

650ml bomber from the LCBO (WHAT?!?!?!? American craft-brews at the LCBO?!!?!??!). Pours a hazy orange colour, with a very large and sticky beige-white head. Aroma: Hops, hops, hoppyness, with a tiny but evident caramalt backbone. Flavour: Hops, hoppyness, hop flavour, lots of hop presence, dry hops, wet hops, smooth, sweet, caramel. Hops. This is a pretty tasty brew, I must admit. I wonder how many times I can say hops in one rating. I really like this one, and am downright startled that it’s available at the LCBO. Hops. I can’t wait for the Dead Guy to show up! Hops. I really love the Vienna malts in this one! Hop shortage. They add a nice toffee-biscuity character to the taste that I tend to love in beer. Hops. I would stock pile this stuff if it weren’t so GOD DAMN expensive. Hip Hops.
