Commercial Description:
Brutal combines Oregon hops with English Malts. The Oregon grown Crystal hop is a triploid variety developed from the German Hallertau aroma hop variety with contributions from Cascade, Brewers Gold, and Early Green. Crystal is the only hop used in brewing Brutal and it provides a massive amount of aroma without dry-hopping. The English malts used are floor malted Pipkin (a mellow cross of Maris Otter and Warboys, from an English company called Beeston), Cara Vienna and Cara Wheat.

Fantastic bitter ale. Warm amber color with a thick lacy white head. Aroma is floral and spicy aromatic hop oils with some biscuity undertones. Taste has light grapefruit and lemon citrus flavors, shortbread, licorice undertones, smooth and lingering bitter finish that continues to caress the tongue in hops oils. Remarkably smooth and simple, expresses the Crystal hop in all its glory and remains incredibly balanced.

A 0.355L bottle from Alko shop. Mild hoppy nose. Pale head. Lacey leaving. Slightly hazy brown yellow colour. Soft taste at beginning. Quite hopy.

Brutal Bitter is a nicely balanced beer that still retains Rogue’s signature style. The beer pours a light ochre with a nice bubbly head. The aroma is mildly citrusy with a healthy caramel malt sweetness. The flavor has a touch of alcohol, but it’s mostly a fairly hoppy version of an ESB. It’s dryer and somewhat more grassy, lemony bitter than most IPAs, but it’s also not a very British taste, not that I’ve had all that many British beers really. At any rate, it drinks easily and the mouthfeel is good, sudsy, light. I also appreciate that the beer is unfiltered, always a nice touch in contrast to all of the filtered IPAs.

Lots of hops in the aroma and the flavour but remarkably smooth, and great taste. Wish I could find it more often up in Ontario.

Bottle split with Pat. Pours a bright, hazy orange body. The aroma is hops. The flavor is smooth, well brewed hop taste.

12 oz bottle served in a tulip glass. Pour was a dark, cloudy orange with two fingers of thick white head. Nose is citrus, pine, orange, hops, and perfume. Taste is not as extreme as the nose. There is a slight citrus, hops, and a lingering bitter that extends into the finish. Comes off as an IPA, though not nearly as defined, but pulls off a quite sessionable brew!

Found this at B Flat Bar, Bangalore. Pours a cloudy orange with fantastic hop aromas. Not brutally bitter at all - the malt and hops are in perfect balance. Awesome beer from Rogue.

Bottle 0,355 l. Deeply hazy dark ambery orange, smallish white head. Looks appetizing. Nose is candyish, some malts, fresh hops, citrus, wine gums. Flavor is pretty juicy, far from brutally bitter, but some hoppiness, more on the dry side with malty sweetness and some alcohol warmth. Ok beer, but not a true winner. Not a huge fan of the style either.
