Commercial Description:
Brutal combines Oregon hops with English Malts. The Oregon grown Crystal hop is a triploid variety developed from the German Hallertau aroma hop variety with contributions from Cascade, Brewers Gold, and Early Green. Crystal is the only hop used in brewing Brutal and it provides a massive amount of aroma without dry-hopping. The English malts used are floor malted Pipkin (a mellow cross of Maris Otter and Warboys, from an English company called Beeston), Cara Vienna and Cara Wheat.

Tasty, but not my favorite rogue. Its flavor is not quite as brutal as i thought. I like this beer but it is not brutal.

I have had this one a number of times but kept thinking I had already rated it. Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a vivid amber color with a large soapy yellow-white head. The aroma was sweet and fruity with a note of apricot. The flavor was fruity, tangy and bitter with an apricot element underneath. The finish was long and fruity.

Oh, Daddy like! From the bottle. Lots of hops flavor, without the sharp/chlorine aroma too many hoppy ales have. This is an ESB to get used to, and it will serve as the barometer for ESBs until I find something better.

Sampler at San Francisco Rogue Public House. This is a nice bitter. Amber body with a white head. Malt and hops are abundant in the nose. The flavour is somewhat bready and moderately bitter, with a nice dry finish.

I think this is lovely. The alcohol is not as prominent as with AleSmith Anvil; definitely a sweeter, smoother version of the best ESB you’ve ever had. For me, the best ESB I’ve ever had. Caramel, fruit, malt, booyah.

I drank this right after a two-hearted ale, so maybe it didnt taste as bitter to me as it would have. But it does have a wonderful hop aroma and a bitter finish. I need to try this one again.

[777-20071020] Bottle. Woody malt aroma with floral sweet honey notes. Hazy, orange brown body with a big medium-lasting foamy off-white head. Bitter malty wood flavour base has a bit of tangy citrus and a hint of sweetness. Medium body. Nice blend, nice hoppy tang.
