Commercial Description:
Brutal combines Oregon hops with English Malts. The Oregon grown Crystal hop is a triploid variety developed from the German Hallertau aroma hop variety with contributions from Cascade, Brewers Gold, and Early Green. Crystal is the only hop used in brewing Brutal and it provides a massive amount of aroma without dry-hopping. The English malts used are floor malted Pipkin (a mellow cross of Maris Otter and Warboys, from an English company called Beeston), Cara Vienna and Cara Wheat.

Bottle. Light frothy head. Very light lemon citrus aroma with hint of cascade hops. Excellent depth of character with citrus and maltiness prevailing over a light wood taste. Finish is smooth and pleasantly bitter. An excellent buy.

very nice floral aroma, great copper color. Good flavor but a bit too fruity tasting.

Rerate: Cloudy copper-amber with a wonderful frothy almost cartoon quality head. Plenty of hops in the aroma with a dash of grapefruit and sherbet. It has a peppery hoppy initial flavour with a bitter short finish. Hints of lemon and grapefruit in there too. Delicious, a real joy to be able to get locally (for now!)

Fantastic american bitter. Dry without being overwhelmingly so, and very well balanced with an ample mouth feel. Perhaps a bit of citrus as would be expected with the hops. Great ESB.

I have had good bottles and bad bottles. The good ones are floral, dry and bitter. Overall they were nice. The bad ones though have tasted like the end of a bad drunken night. Pure bile like flavor. Two bad bottles out of 10 or so over the years.

From bottle. Faint floral aroma. Amber/copper in colour with a decent white head. Floral flavour, scents, spice. Bitter sweet crisp beer. Could drink this regularly.

Rogue has some good brews, this one included. Nice copper color, with nice strong aroma and good mix of hops and sweetness.

it has a hazy amber copper color with a small white head. a pretty strong aroma of maple malt and floral grapefruit. medium thick body and a pleasant, lively carbonation. very hoppy taste with plenty of grapefruit, flowers, and a slight spiciness to it. the bitterness is pretty good, but they are slightly under the hops, and there is a honey malt flavor way in the background. not so sure about this one...delicious...but i think the hops are somewhat overpowering and crystal might not have been a good choice for an ESB
