Commercial Description:
Brutal combines Oregon hops with English Malts. The Oregon grown Crystal hop is a triploid variety developed from the German Hallertau aroma hop variety with contributions from Cascade, Brewers Gold, and Early Green. Crystal is the only hop used in brewing Brutal and it provides a massive amount of aroma without dry-hopping. The English malts used are floor malted Pipkin (a mellow cross of Maris Otter and Warboys, from an English company called Beeston), Cara Vienna and Cara Wheat.

My perfect in between beer. Whether my last was hop heavy or flowery or very dark and smoky, this beer cleans the palate perfectly. I love this beer. It is a common purchase. Grapefruit with spice. This is an later add on. I have had this beer dozens of times. I still love it. It is now 10.99 a six pack. Too much for an american brew in america..hops shortage or not. Yet I seem to buy single or two a month. Lower the price please.

Hmmm, never tasted a beer like this one and I tend to dig ESBs. Plenty bitter with a little fruity taste too. Different ESB but still good. Don’t think I could drink more than 1 or 2 at a time though. Would like to try again too.

A great beer with a huge amount of hops, not exactly bitter, the IBU’s are quite low for the name. The aroma is full of very fruity hops, mainly the crystal hops. A full bodied dark ale.

Sweet malt aroma with slight hops, pours an orange-yellow with a small foamy head. Tastes very boozy - some light crystal - tastes like carastan - and lots of hops! Very dry aftertaste. Light and creamy body, decent carb. A very enjoyable bitter, the hop variety isn’t exactly my cup of tea but it’s nice and crisp and bitter with decent malting just like a bitter should be.

Hazy yellow-orangeish hue, with a frothy white head, leaving laces, yeasty, fruity peachy nose, with a nice floral orange, citrus hop accent, with some toasted malts, a subtle herbal spiciness in the aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate with a yeasty, peachy character, with a flowery hop orange fruitiness, hint of candied tangerine peel flavor, with a faint leafiness accent, within a smooth mouthfeel, leading towards a fruity orange, hop bitterness finish.

Pours kind of a copper color, nice head. Maybe I have a cold or something, I didn’t find this to be overly bitter. Not a lot of malt, but I thought the hops were manageable. I agree this doesn’t seem like an ESB. Very good!

Cloudy gold. Some bitterness in the smell, but mostly a yeasty bready aroma. I like the creamy flavor up front and the bitterness in the finish balances it well. Good beer.

Sure, it’s a lot like an IPA. What’s there to say? All of these IPA-inspired beers tend to vary in degree, not substance. Piney, citrusy, and bitter hops. Not-too-sweet malt to balance. A good beer; just nothing special. This tasted more like Dogfish Head 60 Minute to me than like Fuller’s ESB.
