pantani (1894), Salinas, California, USA Jun 30, 2007 Amber color, nice white head. Aroma is piney hops, light citrus. Aroma is much like an IPA. Taste is fairly bitter, moreso then expected, light caramel. Really seems like an IPA rather then a bitter. robertjm (399), El Cerrito, California, USA Jun 24, 2007 Yup, this is certainly one bitter beer. Its funny that they call this an ESB as most ESB aren’t very bitter. To me its more akin to an IPA. Dark yellowy in color. White foamy head which disappears fairly quickly. Nothing to really speak of, aroma-wise. Bitterness that lingers on the palate. JMFG (1514), Florida, USA Jun 23, 2007 Pours a nice looking glowing orange color with a thin layer of dense white head. Nice malt aroma is present, but it gets muscled around by the full citric hoppiness. Medium-bodied, low carbonation level. Nice mild grapefruity hop bite to start, but again, the malt base is certainly noticeable. I really like this brew because it has the hop kick but retains its ESB qualities. bhensonb (4182), Woodland, California, USA Jun 22, 2007 Aroma is something of a yeasty citrus. Reddish copper color with a white head that laces as it diminishes. Very smooth, low carbonation, medium bodied. Creamy. HOP!!!! Yes, there is some malt here, and there is some sweetness, but, hey, who cares. Hop. Hop. Hop. Burn my taste buds. Dry, spiced bitter finish. Washes those jalapenos right out of my palate. Fantastic. Duster72 (117), Indianapolis, Indiana, USA Jun 20, 2007 Pours a cloudy amber color with a off white one finger head with decent retention. Aroma is mild bitter hops with some sweet breads and citrus. Taste is excellent with sweet malts playing off the hops bitterness perfectly. Smooth mouthfeel. Excellent drinkability, perfect session candidate. Awesome beer. redlem (1155), Illinois, USA Jun 17, 2007 Probably one of the last remants of the NW ESB beers. Since Redhook took the macro plunge this is still a quality beer. A copper colored amber beer with a medium white head. A mix of hop aroma; somewhat citrus somewhat musty. The malts are somewhat sweet fro mthe roasting. A fairly smooth drink to the end. drawde (115), San Francisco, California, USA Jun 15, 2007 Updated: Dec 23, 2007Red-tangerine. Light, very little malt taste, lots of apricot, and bitter. Not much malt backbone. rudolf (1734), Buffalo, New York, USA Jun 14, 2007 Tap @ Cole’s. Rich copper, thin white head. Nose is slight fruit, bare dusty malt, a hint of pear. Flavor is caramel, undefined bitterness. Apple in the finish.
