Commercial Description:
Brutal combines Oregon hops with English Malts. The Oregon grown Crystal hop is a triploid variety developed from the German Hallertau aroma hop variety with contributions from Cascade, Brewers Gold, and Early Green. Crystal is the only hop used in brewing Brutal and it provides a massive amount of aroma without dry-hopping. The English malts used are floor malted Pipkin (a mellow cross of Maris Otter and Warboys, from an English company called Beeston), Cara Vienna and Cara Wheat.

Pour a nice copperish golden with a creamy, dense, off white head. Nice hoppish aroma of ciatrus and some pine. Also a slight touch of malt in the background of the aroma. Nice mild hoppish flavor with just a touch of grapefruit and accomapined by a little bit of caramel.

Appearance: Fine-looking murky copper body with a creamy, off-white head. Plenty of lacing throughout. Smell: Hmm. An acutely cakey aroma paired with a fresh floral-citrus scent. Taste: Zestful citrus flavors, perhaps a little bit of earthy pine, too, with a small amount of malts bouncing in amongst the hops. Crisp, lasting (though in no way overwhelming) bitterness on the finish. Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. The carbonation is fine, and somewhat prickly at times. Drinkability: Well, its anything but brutal. But whatever, it still makes for easy drinking.

Pours a cloudy light brown with a thin head. Light fruity hop aroma.Bitter tea flavoured beer, medium carbonation. It does nothing to separate itself from other ESB’s.

Bottle. Pours a deep hazy orange amber body with thin head. Aroma is of sweet malt, slight fruit, small amount of soapy hops. Flavor is a nice bitter taste, lightly sweet, malty, nice hop bitterness, and nicely carbonated. One of the best Rogue’s I ever had. Now if only they would lower their price, I would buy this more ofthen.

Deep orange gold color, dense white head, significant lacing. Citrus and dank green hops, barely perceptible malt toastiness. Fruity pale ale taste. Bitter, definitely not brutal, but has a pleasing hop bite. It works for me.

Cask. Amber/brown body with a tall white head. Great cask mouthfeel. Ends up being a pretty typical bitter with a bit more of a hop aroma.

On tap Rogue Ale house Newport OR. Pours out a light amber. Topped with a off white head. A very nice hop on this one. If all ESB’s were like this I would drink more of them.

The hop aroma is simply gorgeous. Grapefruity as hell. The beer is cloudy and golden with a nice, white head. The taste definitely doesn’t live up to the name--not brutal at all--but it’s very tasty in its own right. Lots of hop flavour, but not all that much bitterness. The finish is a little more brief than I’d like. Very smooth mouth-feel. I’m glad this has finally made it to Alabama.
