Commercial Description:
Brutal combines Oregon hops with English Malts. The Oregon grown Crystal hop is a triploid variety developed from the German Hallertau aroma hop variety with contributions from Cascade, Brewers Gold, and Early Green. Crystal is the only hop used in brewing Brutal and it provides a massive amount of aroma without dry-hopping. The English malts used are floor malted Pipkin (a mellow cross of Maris Otter and Warboys, from an English company called Beeston), Cara Vienna and Cara Wheat.

Watch out Brits, Rogue’s giving you a run for your money with this beer! If they had this on a beer engine, it would be an example of divinity on earth. Poured with a creamy, yet frothy and foamy off-white head that lasts forever with loads of lace. Color is an amber hued copper. Aroma is very malty caramel with lots of hop in a mix of British and American hop fragrances. Enticing! Flavor is vedy, vedy British with perfectly complimentary American flavs - rich malt, toffee, caramel, hops, bittersweet. a slight bit toasty. Body is to die for: full yet not too heavy. Finish is just right so you want to have another sip. Session beer extraordinaire.

Rogue Brutal Bitter is a cloudy, deep golden beer with a dense, yellowish, off-white head with outstanding retention and lacing. It has a bright, hoppy aroma of citrus and grass and a note of dusty malt. It is medium bodied, smooth, dry and clean. It’s reasonably bitter (not brutal) with a lot of complex malt flavors. It’s toasty and resiny-- lots going on in there. There’s a note of lemon at the finish. It’s a solid ale.

Good not great there are other more intense ESB’s out there, and rouge fell a little short on this one IMO.

nice tropical fruit-salad aroma. I wavered between balanced or too sweet - I think the latter. Improved as it warmed a little.

(Bottle, BBE 08/09, at Hilpeä Hauki, Helsinki, on 2009-05-22) Amber and hazy. Small white head. Sweet and fruity aroma. Full bodied and dry palate with medium carbonation. Malts, bitterness, sweetness, hops, fruitiness, light roastedness and saltiness in taste. Bitter and malty aftertaste. A pleasant beer even though I think the age had already affected the taste.

Bomber. Pours an average, white, rocky head with a copper, murky body. Average malt aroma of caramel, toffee, cereal and date. Low, herbal and floral hop aroma. Medium-light bodied with lively carbonation and a moderately bitter finish. A decent enough beer.

650 ml. bottle. Shared with Arlo. Pours a thin head, poor duration, no lacing, over a pale golden (SRM 10) cloudy body.....nose is honey, spice, cardamom, perhaps a bit of citrus.....taste is initially mildly sweet, spicy, later medium hop bitterness.....mouth feel is heavy, carbonation is medium. This is a great ESB.
