Commercial Description:
Brutal combines Oregon hops with English Malts. The Oregon grown Crystal hop is a triploid variety developed from the German Hallertau aroma hop variety with contributions from Cascade, Brewers Gold, and Early Green. Crystal is the only hop used in brewing Brutal and it provides a massive amount of aroma without dry-hopping. The English malts used are floor malted Pipkin (a mellow cross of Maris Otter and Warboys, from an English company called Beeston), Cara Vienna and Cara Wheat.

Pours a hazy orange amber color with a thick rocky white head. Excellent aroma and flavor of floral and citrusy hops with caramel, strong, lasting bitter finish. Medium body, creamy texturem lively carbonation. Definitely the best bitter I’ve tasted.

Aroma of floral hops, more american syle. Taste is bitter, bit sweet. Floral hoppy, with some malt and citrus, quite nice. Not much balance due to heavy hopping. However quite tasty. Medium body.

In short: A smooth fluffy ale with a strong floral character. Smooth and highly drinkable (not brutal in any way)
How: Bottle 22oz. Consumed fresh immediately after purchase
The look: Cloudy orange body topped by medium off-white head
In long: Shy nose of floral bitter. Taste is rather soft but very pleasant. Highly fluffy body. The soft cereals with a light honey/caramel touch combined with the fluffy body makes for a nice smooth muffin sensation. Rather yeasty, a bit too much for a session ale. Apricots, citrus and mangos. Really smooth pleasant beer. A Brutal Bitter that is neither Brutal nor very Bitter.

Smells very hoppy and floral. Hazy peach colour, great head. Steroidal bitter taste, also orange. Nice tongue tingle. Superb.

Rogue tap house in Portland. This brew has a very citrusy hop aroma with a good malt backing. Pours a orange/amber color with a nice ivory head that leaves moderate lacing. The taste had a great bitterness to it the whole way through and ended with a nice hoppy character. Very smooth and crisp.

It’s brutal all right. It even had a citrusy flavor buried deep inside. Others tasted fruit and spice and I can see why. Surprisingly complex, yet brutal nonetheless.

Bottle. Hazy amber with a big creamy off-white head. Complex citrus aroma with oranges and grapefruit. Flavour start with malty sweetness, but develops quite bitter with a dry finish. Medium body.

22. Great little session beer without a doubt. Pours murky toffee-ish dark amber color, sudsy white head that falls to film before you get much of a chance to think about it. Occasional condensation-like drops of lace here and there on the way down. Modest nose; not much to say: some light pacman ale-y fruitiness, some little orange-y citric hop notes. Grainy medium body with active carb, plenty more fruity bits: hoppy orange pith, yeasty general fruitiness (hints of peach?), some light biscuit and very light grain husk notes. Quenching and strong enough to stand up to food--awesome utility beer. Jack Joyce couldn’t piss me off much more than he does given that I know him only as his occasional customer, but even despite that, I love this beer and need to grab it more often.
