Commercial Description:
Brutal combines Oregon hops with English Malts. The Oregon grown Crystal hop is a triploid variety developed from the German Hallertau aroma hop variety with contributions from Cascade, Brewers Gold, and Early Green. Crystal is the only hop used in brewing Brutal and it provides a massive amount of aroma without dry-hopping. The English malts used are floor malted Pipkin (a mellow cross of Maris Otter and Warboys, from an English company called Beeston), Cara Vienna and Cara Wheat.

Plesant citrus aroma with a mild hop profile. Nice pouring beer. Cloudy amber with a frothy white head. More citrus in the taste. Huge hops for the style. Much thicker than an English style ESB. Nice stuff.

Started with a disturbing skunky aroma, but that quickly subsided, leaving a nice floral hops essence. Pours amber with a lasting white head. Flavor is much the same, dominated by hops but balanced by a pinch of malts, with a hint of orange. Finishes with a distinct bitter aftertaste. Rogue crafts consistently interesting beers.

(bottle - 12 oz) Medium amber color with a creamy tan head and great lacing. Aroma is pretty floral and hoppy at first but fades quickly and leaves a little bit of malt. Flavor begins bitter and citrus with some floral notes and grapefruit. The middle has a little malts but a nice hoppiness. The beer finishes clean and leaves a lingering aftertaste of bitter and citrusy hops. Medium bodied.

bottle. hazy orange-copper body with a fluffy white head. floral resiny hop aroma - citrus orange and grapefruit, along with some yeast. full body. sweet start and almost overwhelmingly hoppy. there is some effort to balance this beast but it falls a bit short. Sharp pine bitterness in the long, lingering finish. This is certainly an American rendition of the style.

Bottle @ Beer Palace, Oslo. Low coarse off-white head. Body is foggy golden brown. Light bready malt aroma with a scent of lemony hops. Taste has a quite harsh bitterness and a light sourish malt profile, probably since this is an old bottle past its prime... Well-bodied. Bitter ending. Re-rate pending.
