Commercial Description:
Brutal combines Oregon hops with English Malts. The Oregon grown Crystal hop is a triploid variety developed from the German Hallertau aroma hop variety with contributions from Cascade, Brewers Gold, and Early Green. Crystal is the only hop used in brewing Brutal and it provides a massive amount of aroma without dry-hopping. The English malts used are floor malted Pipkin (a mellow cross of Maris Otter and Warboys, from an English company called Beeston), Cara Vienna and Cara Wheat.

Pours with a glowing orange color and a beige head atop. Very pleasant nose with an apricot fruitiness and sweet juicy hoppiness about it. Taste is mild apricot and fruity, and more hoppy than expected for the style, but very welcomed as it makes this a fantastic ESB. Very drinkable and suprisingly good despite a quick finish. Easily one of Rogues best beers in my opinion.

A copper pour with a slightly off white head. An aroma of rich malt and some hops. A very malty flavor followed by a very good progressive and lingering bitter. The palate is a little thin but the carbonation is good. A beer I like the palate and carbonation let it down some but overall very nice.

Bottled. Pours reddish/golden in color. Aroma is fairly bitter and hoppy. Flavor is hoppy and somewhat bitter. Not extremely bitter. The hops are more subdued, rather than a full on frontal assault. Maybe a hint of yeast in the flavor as well. Good quality Rogue brew.

bottle. hazy orange/light amber with a medium sized off white head. Taste sweet/mostly attenuated malt with alot of citrus in the initial flavor, which quickly turns to a medium to strong pine hop bitterness, along with a dry malty finish.

Nice amber color with a slightly golden colored foamy head that had a pretty decent staying power. The aroma was strong, mainly of grapefruit and hops with a pretty good spice tone to it as well. The taste was mildly malty with more emphasis being put on the hops, the main thing that i was expecting was this obnoxious bitter taste but this one was pretty pleasant nice semi sweet and bitter taste with a grapefruit side that quickly turns to a nice hit of hop's that are bitter but not to harsh. The after taste is mildly citrusy but mostly hops in the bitter range. This is quite a brew and better then i thought it would be.Well worth having a few more of these bad boys around.
