A very citrusy character, plentiful hop flavor and various fruits in the mouthfeel. Grapefruit, lemon and pear to name a few. Aromas also with citrus fruit, grapefruit ecspecially. A very full mouthfeel, not overly hoppy but enough to satisfy me. nice beer! BillKismet (1943), Seattle, Washington, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Mar 27, 2008 Bronze amber, somewhat cloudy. Little head. Easy bitterness wafts off the glass with a light floral quality. This leads to an easy, one note hop flavor with a light bitterness. Just okay. Quite a disappointment given its high rating. scraff (1942), Baltimore, Maryland, USA

Intense hoppy nose of florals, grapefruit rind, and lemon zest. Flavor is more of the same with a very bitter bite up front, and a very soft sweet malt backbone aiming for balance. Doesn’t ever come close, but it’s not supposed to with a name like this. Medium bodied, pillow soft carbonation, very dry, bittersweet finish. If you want to get your "bitter on"... | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 19, 2001 Great bitters from the huge hops. It’s called ’Brutal Bitter’ for a reason--you don’t like bitter, drink something else. Really no malts to speak of, but does have a nice color and manages a nice, fully body. A good one. This is a keeper. Not to be confused with English bitters, this is more of an IPA. Could use a little more malt but I like it just the way it is. Shag (1923), Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 16, 2003 Smells like hops and some citrus fruit. It smells exactly like Arrogant Bastard to me. Appearance is cloudy yellow. Flavor is very hoppy with some lemon in the background. I really enjoyed this beer as I am a lover of the hops! Don't give this to your swill drinking friends! Overall very good. DanielBrown (1919), Birmingham (via Leicester), West Midlands, England
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Mar 26, 2004 Bottle from Onlyfinebeer.co.uk (Bottles). Not a Bitter in any UK sense, this has a real hoppy US slant, which makes it more like an IPA. Brutal is certainly the word! A real hard taste, right from the off. That's not a criticism mind, it's a good brew, albeit slightly one-dimensional. Crusty hops throughout, with a long, dry finish that makes your tongue sore. Copper toned, soapy head, with thcik lacing and a sweet hop aroma. This is nice enough and gets more drinkable once you've acclimatised.
