Commercial Description:
Brutal combines Oregon hops with English Malts. The Oregon grown Crystal hop is a triploid variety developed from the German Hallertau aroma hop variety with contributions from Cascade, Brewers Gold, and Early Green. Crystal is the only hop used in brewing Brutal and it provides a massive amount of aroma without dry-hopping. The English malts used are floor malted Pipkin (a mellow cross of Maris Otter and Warboys, from an English company called Beeston), Cara Vienna and Cara Wheat.

Pours hazy orangish amber with a thin, mostly receding off-white head. Aroma of citric hops and funky alefruits: melon, mango, and pineapple. Tastes lightly resinous with hoppy melons and mangos. Notes of sweet toffee and citrus. Mouthfeel is medium to full bodied and slightly resinous with smooth carbonation. Enjoyable, with a somewhat subdued hoppiness.

Very impressive beer, hazy & cloudy medium-dark golden color, nice thick bubbly white head that laced around the glass, plenty of hops in the aroma balanced by some nice grainy maltiness, the flavors were very well balanced also, tons of hops in the flavor & aftertaste, it's so brilliant to be burping up hops, very well balanced body, along with the huge hoppiness of the beer it had quite a malt profile, dry & spicy aftertaste as well, a very excellent & well-rounded beer

BottlePours A nice medium hazy amber, with a decent head and lacing. Aroma is a slightly sweet, wheaty, and a bit of a hoppy bite. Taste is very bold. Malty, big hops kick, very robust and full tasting. Like a dark IPA. Feel is a bit heavy and smooth. A little brown sludge at the bottom of the glass Lingering aftertaste is that back of the toungue pucker. Pretty Good.

Best aspect of this one is definitely the aroma. Heavy with pine, grapefruit and oranges. Appearance is an orangish amber with a minimal head. Flavor is definitely hop centered, but there seems to be no supporting cast of malty undertones to give this any support. The bitter hops aspect was really nice, but the finished product was watery and directionless in my opinion.

Bouteille de 650ml, acheté au LCBO de Rideau et King edward (Ottawa) le 19 avril 2009. Cuivre pale, moyen collet. Arome d’agrume houblonné, pas très amère. Bon goût d’houblon mi-sucré, céréal muslique, agrume, légèrement amère. C’est rare que ce style est bonne et ça c’est l’une d’elle!

Medium yellow with a medium white head. Aroma of mild citrus, caramel and sweet malt. Taste of malt and citrus with a medium bitter finish.

Pours a nice looking glowing orange color with a thin layer of dense white head. Nice malt aroma is present, but it gets muscled around by the full citric hoppiness. Medium-bodied, low carbonation level. Nice mild grapefruity hop bite to start, but again, the malt base is certainly noticeable. I really like this brew because it has the hop kick but retains its ESB qualities.

Pours a clear orange/amber with a thick, dense off-white head. Aroma is hoppy with a hint of grass. Taste is very earthy with plenty of hops, grapefruit, citrus, caramel and honey. Rock-solid malt background. Lingering bitter aftertaste and finish. Mouthfeel is very full, thick, round and creamy with moderate carbonation. Just glorious. Spotty lacing, great head retention. Can be considered an IPA in my opinion. Highly recommended.
