Commercial Description:
Brutal combines Oregon hops with English Malts. The Oregon grown Crystal hop is a triploid variety developed from the German Hallertau aroma hop variety with contributions from Cascade, Brewers Gold, and Early Green. Crystal is the only hop used in brewing Brutal and it provides a massive amount of aroma without dry-hopping. The English malts used are floor malted Pipkin (a mellow cross of Maris Otter and Warboys, from an English company called Beeston), Cara Vienna and Cara Wheat.

Small, off white head atop a cloudy, amber/orange color. Aromatic, spicy, hoppy nose with the emphasis on grapefruit. Well carbonated, medium-bodied mouthfeel. Taste was, aptly, bitter, and overwhelmed the descriptive malt profile. Much preferred over the Youngers Special Bitter.

Decent hop aroma, though intensity is low. Moderately bodied, with decent mouthfeel. Caramelly sweet, with a dryish finish. Hops are curious without being particularly interesting. Somewhere between northwestern citrusy and english and german hops, but doesn't quite work for me.

Nice cloudy amber body looks big and has a big frothy white head to back it up. Beer turns out to be quite big and chewy. Nose has a lot of hops in it (spruce, resin) that practically hide the malt and yeast. Also smells like pears and white wine. Taste starts out sweet and quickly gives way to bitterness and a long finish. Nice to see something like this done without the use of cascades or dry-hopping.

12oz - A nice hop aroma balanced out with carmel malt and a little nuttiness. Pours cloudy orange-brown with nice quickly dissapating head leaving great lacing. Flavor is malt first, a little hazelnut, the the hops kick in. Palate is clean and smooth. A tasty brew.

Well made, although not very British in flavor. Pours a light orange in color, a bit hazy and with a perfect white head. Aroma is very bitterish, sulfur, malty, slightly grassy, slightly rotten, little tart. Flavor is pretty reminisent of an American pale, moderately bitter(but not aciditic) mixed with malty sweetness. Finish is very balanced upfront and slighty dry on the tail end.

Bottle poured orange amber with a nice thick head. Aroma of hops and citrus. Flavor is light hops citrus, spice with a easy bitter hop sting on the palate. Good.
