Commercial Description:
Brutal combines Oregon hops with English Malts. The Oregon grown Crystal hop is a triploid variety developed from the German Hallertau aroma hop variety with contributions from Cascade, Brewers Gold, and Early Green. Crystal is the only hop used in brewing Brutal and it provides a massive amount of aroma without dry-hopping. The English malts used are floor malted Pipkin (a mellow cross of Maris Otter and Warboys, from an English company called Beeston), Cara Vienna and Cara Wheat.

Poured a golden orange color out of the boomer with a nice off-white head that lasted and left fair lacing. Lots of smells of citrus hops with some malty caramel hidden in there. The flavor showed grapefruit, flowers, and grass with some malt undertones. Light to medium body. Bitter but not brutal.

(Bottle) Pours a hazy golden color with a copious white head. Strong, hoppy aroma. Taste is more malty, with notes of bread and some smooth caramel. Full, almost oily mouthfeel. Beautiful lacing and good balance. A little more hoppy than I expected, but an excellent beer nevertheless!

(Bottle) Cloudy amber body, foamy beige head, so-so lacing. Aroma strange combination of hops, maple syrup and dirty sock. Bitter. Smooth. Nice body. Not bad but doesn’t seem like a finished product.

Pours murky amber with an offwhite head that leaves a lacing on the glass and a thick film on the beer. Aroma is hoppy and refreshing, similar to an IPA. Taste starts off bitter with a bite, then mellows out into a smooth roastiness. A good and agreeable ESB, but as to be expected with an ESB, not as drinkable as some other brews.
