Commercial Description:
Brutal combines Oregon hops with English Malts. The Oregon grown Crystal hop is a triploid variety developed from the German Hallertau aroma hop variety with contributions from Cascade, Brewers Gold, and Early Green. Crystal is the only hop used in brewing Brutal and it provides a massive amount of aroma without dry-hopping. The English malts used are floor malted Pipkin (a mellow cross of Maris Otter and Warboys, from an English company called Beeston), Cara Vienna and Cara Wheat.

October 2007. Bottle. Orange body with a small white head. Moderate hoppy aroma, odd earthy note to the hops. Decent amount of bitterness throughout, light citrus, earthy resin. Average palate. Meh. Just ok. 7/3/7/3/14-15 - 3.5
October 2006. 12oz bottle from Bishops Cellar in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Amber body, with a generous fluffy beige head and lacing. Aroma of light, muted hops, grass, and a light hint of bile up front that seems very out of place gives way to muted caramel malt as it warms a bit. Pleasant citrus - grapefruit in the flavour seems restrained, light round fruitiness lingers. Malt is a tertiary player. Average palate. Very unassertive, this was a disappointing re-rate. Am hoping perhaps the bottle was showing its age, and will try another one when given the opportunity. 6/4/6/3/13 - 3.2
April 2002. Very hoppy and bitter. Similar to HopDevil in the degree of bitterness. Tasty if you like a bitter beer. 7/4/8/4/16 - 3.9

Bottle. Pours an amber body with an off white head. Caramel malts, some light nuttiness, and then its all sorts of hoppy bad-ass-ness. Grapefruit highlights strong tanic tea notes, bitter hop resins, and a nice kick to the face.

This brew poured a medium sized head of fine to large sized mostly lasting white colored bubbles that left behind a carbonated very hazy cloudy old brown banna yellow colored body and a good lacing. The aroma is all hops and the mouthfeel is strong hops and very bitter. The flavor is all hops. Can I have my stout back please! Oh well, the hop heads will love this one!

Amber colour, small white head. Strong smell of flowery hops, like a trip to a cornfield next to a field with wild flowers. The taste has some sweet mallts, almost honey. It finished with some dry bitter hops. Lovely. But not at all harsh.

(Bottled, 0.65l) Medium-hazy with a small, firm head. Flowery, very pleasant and distinctive aroma of fresh hops, hay and cows. Slightly sweet, grainy-malty, very aromatic-hoppy flavor. Medium-bodied, quite carbonated, but smooth and slicky palate. A very pleasant and balanced brew, but this is really more like an IPA than a bitter.

Mild grassy nose. Cloudy amber, creamy lacing head. Nice hop flavors (grass, herbs) plus some apricots. Medium body, smooth mouthfeel. Grassy aftertaste.
