Commercial Description:
Brutal combines Oregon hops with English Malts. The Oregon grown Crystal hop is a triploid variety developed from the German Hallertau aroma hop variety with contributions from Cascade, Brewers Gold, and Early Green. Crystal is the only hop used in brewing Brutal and it provides a massive amount of aroma without dry-hopping. The English malts used are floor malted Pipkin (a mellow cross of Maris Otter and Warboys, from an English company called Beeston), Cara Vienna and Cara Wheat.

This one pours a very hazy orange-amber with a fine and bubbly white head. The mouthfeel is very thick and fulfilling. The nose is strong of leaves and Azalea flowers but with a citrus tinge. The taste is slightly sour and bready upfront with a strong grapefruit tartness following. The middle is a bit hollow, as I can’t really find anything else until the end. The end is a malty sweetness with lingering hints of citrus. The dryness is very strong in the finish.

An excellent selection. I was looking around in a six pack shop and spotted this. Orange copperish in color, resembling honey. Nice rich head and a nice bite to it. A grapefruity hoppy taste. Glad I got this one. Very refreshing for a breezy sunny afternoon.

Wow! A great bitter, perhaps one of the better ones I have had! Pours gold with a large head, lots of bubbles swirl through the body, very decent looking. The bitterness in the flavor is extremely well balanced and extremely tasty. nice finish, with great aftertaste, one amazing bitter!

This is what I think of when I hear ESB. Others seem to lack in the bitter department of the name. This had it all. Nice orange color. White head. Hops are abundant throughout with the malt to shoulder them. Kudos.

sweet cirtus nose, intense bitter mouth with sour orange/grapefruit overtones. Bubbly head with very nice lacing. This is a great beer. I wish I knew the enthaol content and as an earlier poster mentioned, the production or shelf date.

Pours a hazy orange with an off white head. Has aroma of floral, citrus, and hops. Taste is excellent, it is medium bodied and unfiltered with flavors of hops, citrus, spices, and malts.

Sampled from bottle. Pours hazy copper with a creamy, light-tan head that left remarkable lacing. Aroma is dominated by American C-Hops: flowers, grapefruit, pepper and pine. Flavor is nicely bitter. A crisp & strong malt profile helps tame the 59 IBU’s of hops very well, but the C-hops still take center stage. Rogue’s proprietary yeast is more sublte in this ale, with only a bit of that ’peppered plum’ characteristic coming through in the middle of a sip. Full-bodied, moderately-carbonated with a dry finish. A great ale.

Monstrous pillow head with a thick and hazy orange/yellow body. Lot of sediment floating around too. Fresh citrus aroma thats has a funky smell. Tastes of breadish barley and relaxed hops with citrus: lime, orange, and the best damn grapefruit flavor i tasted in a beer yet.
