Commercial Description:
Brutal combines Oregon hops with English Malts. The Oregon grown Crystal hop is a triploid variety developed from the German Hallertau aroma hop variety with contributions from Cascade, Brewers Gold, and Early Green. Crystal is the only hop used in brewing Brutal and it provides a massive amount of aroma without dry-hopping. The English malts used are floor malted Pipkin (a mellow cross of Maris Otter and Warboys, from an English company called Beeston), Cara Vienna and Cara Wheat.

Didn’t realise yanks could make beer like this. Not overly hopped with the garish US grapefruity pine resin varieties, but nicely balanced and hoppy all the same. Bit pricey but a definite beer to be revisited. Pretty damned good rendition of a British Style. Will definitely have to pay more attention to US brews from hereon. Apologies for the late start.....intend to make up for lost time.

Very tasty, loved the hoppy aroma and flavor. One of my favorites from Rogue. Easy to drink and need to be careful since it can sneek up on you.

Pours a dark gold with a touch of almost brown with a sizeable white head. Nose is Extremely hoppy and super sweet. Flavor is thick with hops and a very slight bite. Just barely bitter as the hops take over the flavor profile, but don’t make it too unbearable with too hoppy a tone. Mouthfeel is good on carbonation and this one is extremely drinkable. This is the 13th beer I have reviewed from Rogue and yet again they deliver. I just want to try more, and more, and more...

Very good stuff. Great on the palate and the low carbonation helps it go down easy. Abundance of hops is definitely noticeable. The copper color is nice too. Haven’t had many bitters, but I’m sure this is one of the better ones out there. Reminds me of an IPA, which didn’t make it stand out much. Definitely going to try as much as I can from Rogue.

22 oz. bottle. The aroma contains hops, pine, citrus, and banana scents. The beer smells like a classic Northwest U.S. ale. It pours a hazy bright orange/bronze with a moderate amount of uneven golden cream colored head. It looks as an ale should. The aroma and appearance both are very appetizing. Strong, bitter hops are evident in the flavor, but it also features a comfortable fruity sweetness (bananas, pears, lemons) as well as hints of pine. This is a well-balanced beer, and the Crystal hops are the perfect choice. There is good bitter aftertaste. Brutal Bitter is smooth, creamy, and almost buttery on the palate, the prototypical texture of a good bitter. It is drinkable and refreshing, perfect for sipping while eating chips and watching the game. This is a surprisingly delicious beer given the often bland character of the bitter style. The bottle describes this beer as an "imperial bitter." I’d probably classify this brew as an American Pale Ale. Whatever you call it, it is very good stuff across the board.

bottle. Pours a lightly hazed bright orange color with a big inch of pillowy, chunky head that lasts and lasts, lacing the hell out of the glass. Aromas of some light but sharp spice, smooth floral notes, and some light biscuity malt notes. Flavor starts with a sharp but tame floral bitterness. Hop character shows in more mellow floral flavors, some light citric lemons. Dry, semi sweet malt backbone stays solid throughout. Palate is light and clean, plenty of flavor without being at all heavy. Lightly bitter finish. Overall- I’ve always really enjoyed this brew, but until putting numbers to it, I didn’t realize quite how highly I think of this one!

650ml Bottle from the LCBO. Long lasting head. Bitter, but not too bitter. Hops are balanced perfectly with some distinct fruit flavors. A great beer.
