A little bolder than most ESB’s I’ve had with a nice hop flavor. To me it almost tastes like a cross between an IPA and an ESB. I’ll definitely be picking this up again. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 18, 2005 Bottle. Pours a bright golden orange, fluffy white head, the first glass was transparent and the second was cloudy due to yeast in the bottle. (Is this bottle conditioned? I didn’t think it was, but I could be wrong.) Good lacing on the glass. Aroma is really fruity and hoppy -- grapefruit, apricot, maybe a little bit of lemon. I’m surprised this isn’t dry hopped, because it’s a nice pungent aroma. A sip gives a good spectrum of flavors. It starts out with a sweet maltiness and maybe a hint of saltiness, but it’s just a hint. The unmistakable flavor of the Pacman yeast follows, and it seems to fit this style extremely well. After that, the bitter hops take over, grapefruit mostly. Hops are never tart, and they have a very well rounded flavor. Finish is slightly dry and clean, and when the hops fade there is still a hint of yeast flavor on the tongue. Medium body, moderately low carbonation, extremely smooth in the mouth. This is certainly one of Rogue’s finest brews, it’s a perfect style for their yeast, and there’s an exceptional balance to everything. Crosling (1856), Loveland, Colorado, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 3, 2004 A beautiful color. A hazy orangish peach that glows. The head doesn’t disappoint with the retention or the lace. Both were fantastic.
Mandarin oranges, lemons, spruce, and grapefruit. Very delicately hopped aroma. Looking forward to this one.
Big bouquet of hops throughout the beer. Tons of grapefruits and lots of other spicy fruits. Malt presense is high but intolerant compared with the high hop rate. The hops are citrusy, resiny, oily and juicy. Pretty delicious.

I was expecting an ass kickin on my palate. But bitter, it is. Always great brews from Rogue. beervana (781), Libertyville, Illinois, USA

(05.01.06) One pint, 6 oz brown bottle from DiCarlo’s, Mundelein, IL. 15P, 59 IBU. Hazy orange amber with small white head. Soft carbonation. Intense hop aroma. Medium bodied that starts dry with pronounced citrus (grapefruit) hop flavor. Finished with light malt fade and lingering hop bitterness. Well-balanced with leaning towards hop flavor, not bitterness. Excellent hoppy beer.
