Unfiltered, as most Rogues are. Some malt, but hoppiness is all this beer is about. I love bitter beer. Aftertaste is clean. I thought the carbonation helped this beer. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Sep 19, 2004 Sampled at Brew Ha Ha 2004. Hazy orange with lots of suspended particles. Big fluffy, light brown head. Grapefruity hops in the aroma. Bitter hop flavor, piney and grapefruity. Very full, chewey mouthfeel. Could use a bit more malt sweetness to balance everything out, but a phenomenal beer anyway. pauliefrog99 (302), FLINT, Michigan, USA

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 4, 2003 Bottle conditioned. Hazy amber, initialy good white head soon dissolving to thin cover of bubbles, moderate condition. Excellent pine resin hop aromas with some trace of tangerines and malt. In the mouth the hop flavour dominates with some yeastiness developing. Powdery dry and hop bitter in the finish with more yeast. Big and hoppy but not as complex as 90 minute IPA.

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 1, 2002 My favorite Rogue thus far. A deep amber color with a perfectly balanced bitterness: spicy and citrusy. Good malt presence, especially the specialty Vienna and Wheat malts to differentiate this beer. Sweet aftertaste. I liked the hop varieties employed, especially the Hallertau derivative. cathcacr (592), Portland, Oregon, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 27, 2002 Update 7/27/02: A bit of a downgrade but it’s still quite underrated at an average of only 3.8. This is like a really good American Pale Ale with lots of citrus thrown in. Yum!
A really excellent brew; I just tried this ’brutally bitter’ beer, right after I tried Stone’s IPA, so maybe it didn’t come across as bitter as it might otherwise would. (Somewhat milder in comparison.) Nice orange color just like the IPA, but translucent, contra the IPA’s transparency. As other reviewers noted, there’s a lot going on with citrus flavors; a certain kind of citric acidity comes through. In fact, the look, smell and taste remind me of grapefruit juice. Strong and memorable, just really a fun drink. At $4 a 22 oz bottle, it’s harder to come back to time and time again, but I expect I’ll buy another bottle next time at the store. Congrats to Rogue Brewing Co., creators of some of the best American brews I’ve had.
