Aroma is lemony sour and also citrus with nice hop scent. Taste is sour like good lemonade and very smooth with suddle hop flavor. This is another great brew from Rogue Ales, not overly bitter like the label may say. I am rerating this beer due to the several Brutal Bitters I have been drinking lateley. This beer is very drinkable and finishing a 6 pac is no problem and has you wanting more. If you have not tried this beer, try it and you will not regret it. wapitij (2), USA does not count | 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Jun 1, 2007 Nice creamy head. Cloudy. Wonderful hoppy aroma. Flavorful with a clean bitter finish that begs for you to drink more! One of the best! Papillon (177), Sudbury, Ontario, Canada
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | May 2, 2009 650 mL Bottle. Murky amber body with a rocky white head that settles to a tenacious foamy layer lacing the sides of the glass generously and leaving "a set of foam ribs" down the side of the glass with every sip. Aroma is intense resiny pungent hops with malt and notes of floral, grapefruit, grass, and pine; absolutely delightful. I wouldn’t call the flavor brutal but it is a flavor bomb nonetheless: intense resiny hops are there yet they make way for a rich malt and grapefruit / apricot expression. Resiny hops with citrus and a spiciness to it speak up in the aftertaste followed by a resiny hop / citrus finish and a grapefruit rind linger. Hey America, you did it again with this one: this is good beer! Rogue Ales, I’ll be knocking on your door for more. Keep up the great work :D triodes (7), California, USA does not count | 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Oct 2, 2009 An old staple in the Rogue family and well deserved. Easy to find. Reliable solid bitter, hoppiness just right for what it is. Not a pale ale, but a cousin. amishcaravan (237), Winona, Minnesota, USA

I love sampling beers that I haven’t had before and this caught my eye. Brutal Bitter......Sounds interesting doesn’t it? very hoppy taste with citrus tones as well. I was very impressed when i took my first sip of the Brutal Bitter. I swallowed my sip, took a deep breath, and let it out slowly. An incredibly refreshing brew! Another winner put out by the good people at Rogue. holybrew (10), Bangalore, India

Not brutally bitter at all - the malt and hops are in perfect balance. Awesome beer from Rogue. bbp182 (255), Levittown, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Sep 21, 2008 It pours a light yellow/orange color with a cloudiness to it. Nice off white head. The smell is very fruity/floral hops. The taste is very bitter, but not overwhelming, it’s more of a fruity/floral type of bitter. You can taste some of the alcohol and it has a nice bitter finish. Very impressive yet again from [in my opinion] one of if not the best brewery around.
