But so what?
Smells like a trip to the hop forest and tastes bitter - not "Brutal", but beautifully bitter.
A wonderful dry finish that leaves the taste buds clamoring for more (okay, it made my mouth water).
Wonderful stuff. ElJefe (553), Rochester, New York, USA

Fruity aroma - much like that of an IPA. This is one great beer. The first tastes are the varied malts used, which give way to the intense grapefuit bitterness of the hops. Starts off like a great ESB and finishes like a great IPA. The best of both worlds! hopdog (5606), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA

Citrus aromas and tastes (mainly oranges) Light pine as well. Nice bitter bite. Slightly sweet. Nice balance. PattyBoy (302), North Liberty, Iowa, USA

Maybe I have a cold or something, I didn’t find this to be overly bitter. Not a lot of malt, but I thought the hops were manageable. I agree this doesn’t seem like an ESB. Very good! meathookjones (245), Sterling, Virginia, USA

This one pours a dark orange color with a great frothy off-white head that has great retention. Pleasantly strong hop aroma comes from this one, citrus and floral with some malt lurking about. The aroma also is quite bitter and strong enough to smell even when the beer is on the table. Good hop flavoring stands out the most with some malt balancing it out. A light bitter finish that lingers about is quite pleasant. Medium body with plenty of carbonation. This a very smooth beer that would make a good session brew. gilvanblight (397), Windsor, Ontario, Canada

Reminds me of something... christmas... wth? No I’ve got it, christmas trees, real live ones. It smells of pine. Very distinct taste. Very cleansing. Feels like it’s washing my mouth out of all inferior tastes. What a nice beer. I generally am not a fan of Rogue, this has changed my mind. There is a bit of a bitter aftertaste I can do without (grapefruit). dirkules (613), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

I had this one after the aprihop and thought I was STILL getting apricot out of it. So much hop that you get hopheaded after a while, a nice addition to a bitter that runs more citrusy than butter caramel like Fullers. The aftertaste is a wreckoning. Fabulousness! | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 14, 2005 I love Rogue’s signature on its hoppy beer. Orangey amber in color with a thick, rocky head from bottle conditioning. Aroma is fragrant with hops that show some perfume, spiciness, and a subdued, though round orangey citrus with a sweet, cotton candy malt foundation. Flavor and aroma are one with the addition of some hard water character giving a chalky nuance to the palate. This is very balanced for a big beer and it is as brutally sweet as it is hoppy.
