Aroma of fruity hops...citrusy, with hints of herbal and floral....similar to hallertau. Flavor is equally as hoppy.....citrus and herbal.....underlying notes of malt...slightly sweet. Bitterness is prevalent throughout, although not overwhelming. Wheat malt rounds out the mouthfeel nicely. A great take on the bitter beer line. Chipper (186), Red Lion, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 20, 2009 Slightly cloudy amber pour with a moderate thick white head. Hops, a little citrus, and maybe a little sweetness aromas. Taste is big spicy hops, citrus, and exceptionally smooth. Way different than other bitters I’ve tried, but it is excellent beer. elihapa (1067), Honolulu, California, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 18, 2008 Poured from bomber. Appears a murky dark apricot. Nice light fruit aroma with some malt. Palate is full bodied, fairly thick, and lingers long. Initial flavor is strong of bitter hops and citrus, but following this there are really delicious sweeter flavors (some butterscotch and milk chocolate?) that balance and complexify this brew. I won’t lie, I really enjoyed Brutal Bitter. This beer is far more interesting to drink than any of Rogue’s ambers, yet the flavors really don’t try to do too much. This beer does ESBs right. gam (1112), brisbane, Australia

Overall: reminds me of a watery Hop Harvest from Sierra Nevada. I’ve had this before, and I might have it again. I’m surprised that this rates as high as it does. medium value. good craft. 16 out of 20. austone (1039), Turku; Pori, Finland

Nose is sweet tropical fruits, strawberries and flowery hops. Flavor well hopped with beautiful fruity tones and very balanced bitterness. Finishes bitter and flowery. Mouthfeel almost sorbet like, medium to full bodied and smooth as hell. A great IPA in my book.
