Commercial Description:
Brutal combines Oregon hops with English Malts. The Oregon grown Crystal hop is a triploid variety developed from the German Hallertau aroma hop variety with contributions from Cascade, Brewers Gold, and Early Green. Crystal is the only hop used in brewing Brutal and it provides a massive amount of aroma without dry-hopping. The English malts used are floor malted Pipkin (a mellow cross of Maris Otter and Warboys, from an English company called Beeston), Cara Vienna and Cara Wheat.

pours an appealing, cloudy amber color. Holding it up to the light you can see all sorts of tiny things floating around in there. The taste of this one is great and the citrus (grapefruit) flavor really comes out and stays around between sips. mmmMMMmmm hops. This is are really nice brew. smells great, looks great and tastes great.

Deceptively sweet cake and toffee malt mouthfeel, thanks to the traditional floor malts and a pleasant hop aroma from solely crystal hops, the most outstanding feature of the beer however is the outstanding bottle conditioned yeast character tha t rounds out all the other ingredients. Definitley Unique to it’s style and worth paying the bucks for downhere in Bakersfield, Ca.

12 ounce bottle in pint glass. Hazy yellow-gold with lasting flat head. Mild hoppy aroma with citrus and yeast. Well-balanced flavor with nice honeyish malt character and equal balanced bitterness. Medium-full body and medium carbonation. Not nearly as brutal or as bitter as I remember. In fact, pretty damn tasty.

Bottle. Pours a cloudy copper golden color with a small frothy white head that diminshes quickly. The aroma is a strong hops with floral and pine. The taste is a very strong hop but still smooth with citrus grapefruit and pine. A very good ESB from Rogue.

22oz bomber (hell yes). Pours a beautiful cloudy amber (a lot like apple-cider). I bought this beer not realizing it was an ESB; because I’ve never enjoyed an ESB before, I thought I’d hate it. WRONG! This is an ESB/IPA hybrid that is extremely enjoyable. Aroma is reminiscent of Stone IPA, but the taste is different. At first, tastes a bit like bread, with a bunch of sweetness, but quickly becomes more like an IPA. Nice bitter IPA finish. Lots of grapefruit presence (which is always enjoyable). This will be my go-to "ESB" from here on out!

650ml bottle, golden with white head. Great quick hoppy punch with a crisp, clean finish. Fantastic.
