Nose is all about hops and citrus....more like a grapefruity hop aroma. Taste is some malty sweetness in the back and hops up front, and then some more hops. Finish is dry and very bitter (surprise!). Nice. IMtheOptimator (1161), Bethel, Connecticut, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 13, 2004 Pours murky amber with an offwhite head that leaves a lacing on the glass and a thick film on the beer. Aroma is hoppy and refreshing, similar to an IPA. Taste starts off bitter with a bite, then mellows out into a smooth roastiness. A good and agreeable ESB, but as to be expected with an ESB, not as drinkable as some other brews. Rentalman (103), British Columbia, Canada

Really floral citrus aroma, all hops. Superlative hop flavor grapefruit and sweet with a nice bit of malt for backbone. Finishes bitter but smooth. If this is brutal than call me a brutalitarian. Great job. DerWeg (762), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Slight grassy finish is pleasant over clean yeasty fruitiness and caramel. Another total winner from the Rogue. jmcguire1969 (149), Lafayette, Colorado, USA

The citrus made an appearance in the after taste. IBU’s in the 80th percetile? entertheiceman (242), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA

This beer is confusing to me and maybe I’m not ready to rate this for all it’s qualities, but where does and IPA end and an ESB begin. This beer has way more in common with a Stone IPA than it does a Fullers ESB. I did detect a slight flavor of old vegetables that I always get from an ESB but not before it was quickly sqashed by the familiar citrus hop proflie of a great IPA. Malt, bread, yeast, sweet citrus, bitter finish is how I would describe this beer. Very good just confusing for the style. harrisoni (6830), Ashford, Kent, England
