Commercial Description:
Brutal combines Oregon hops with English Malts. The Oregon grown Crystal hop is a triploid variety developed from the German Hallertau aroma hop variety with contributions from Cascade, Brewers Gold, and Early Green. Crystal is the only hop used in brewing Brutal and it provides a massive amount of aroma without dry-hopping. The English malts used are floor malted Pipkin (a mellow cross of Maris Otter and Warboys, from an English company called Beeston), Cara Vienna and Cara Wheat.

Had this at the brewery. Outstanding aroma and long lasting flavor. Murky in appearance. Not truely brutal but a hop head delight.

Really nice beer. Nice hazy cloudy look to go along with a heavy dosage of hops to this bitter. Almost like an IBA or something... highly recommended.

Bottle. Pours cloudy orange-amber with a moderate white head that diminished leisurely. Aroma reminds me of a good IPA, sweet caramel malts, lots of citrus hoppiness. Flavor is good, it took me a few sips to really take in the fullness of this brew. It's immediately sweet and bitter at the same time, nicely balanced, though definitely a hop monster. Bracing grapefruit bitterness and a lingering puckering astringency. Medium body and easy carbonation. Not a session ale in my book, definitely one to sip and savor.

Mild hop nose. Nice semi-cloudy brownish orange with a clinging white head. Nice body, great hop balance with the malt. Great beer.

bottle 22 oz. Semi clear orange/copper, big large bubble straw/white head, very good carbonation, moderate lace. Aroma is light roasted but full presence malt w plenty of hops and a touch of grapefruit & toffee. Flavor is light roasted but full malt, somewhat sweet w good hop flavor and considerable bitterness on the palate and in the finish. Some alcohol taste. There are some similarities to Stone IPA but less sweetness. Medium bodied. 7/19/05 I’ve been drinking this for a few days now....good stuff. Nice spiciness in the mix too. 8/9/05 I’m bumping this up one point, had a few on tap yesterday, I sure like this brew, could drink it all day.

Copper honey hue. Fresh grapefruit juice and orange zest nose and taste with a touch of pine. This is my first bitter. Hope they're all this good.

Pretty good stuff. Hops are present with some brown ale textures. Overall, a decent brew, another fine brew from Rogue.

Bottle 12 OZ. Hazy dark amber hue with medium head that lasted the complete brew. Complex citrus and hop aroma. Medium body. Very good complex flavor of malt, citrus and hops with a long bitter finish. Very good ESB.
