Commercial Description:
Brutal combines Oregon hops with English Malts. The Oregon grown Crystal hop is a triploid variety developed from the German Hallertau aroma hop variety with contributions from Cascade, Brewers Gold, and Early Green. Crystal is the only hop used in brewing Brutal and it provides a massive amount of aroma without dry-hopping. The English malts used are floor malted Pipkin (a mellow cross of Maris Otter and Warboys, from an English company called Beeston), Cara Vienna and Cara Wheat.

I liked this beer. I tried it 6/6/06 at a bar in portland waiting for a metal concert. Very bitter and brutal.

Bottle, Pours cloudy golden amber. Small white head that hangs around. Aroma is bright and sweet. Fruity. Hops just explode in your mouth, there is a sweet flavor, but a nice bitter finish. Make no mistake, this is a great beer!

I dunno, I didn’t think it was as great as everyone thinks it is. Nice brown color, malty aroma, but I thought the mouthfeel and taste were pretty watered down. Probably wouldn’t buy again.

22oz bomber (hell yes). Pours a beautiful cloudy amber (a lot like apple-cider). I bought this beer not realizing it was an ESB; because I’ve never enjoyed an ESB before, I thought I’d hate it. WRONG! This is an ESB/IPA hybrid that is extremely enjoyable. Aroma is reminiscent of Stone IPA, but the taste is different. At first, tastes a bit like bread, with a bunch of sweetness, but quickly becomes more like an IPA. Nice bitter IPA finish. Lots of grapefruit presence (which is always enjoyable). This will be my go-to "ESB" from here on out!

Pours a semi cloudy light amber with a smallish white head. Aroma is nicely bitter with just a hint of sweet. Flavor is a bunch of bitter grapefruit hoppiness but not too much as to cause unbalance. Great bitter!.

12oz bottle. Pours a hazy orange-amber with a thin off-white head. Aroma is light and sweet, with citrus, apricot, and syrupy hops alongside a bit of caramelized malt. Taste is fairly full for a bitter, with initial flavors of syrupy hops and apricot giving way to a bitter middle flavor of citrus, coriander, and more hops, followed by a somewhat sweet aftertaste of honey and spice. Really more of a bizzare IPA/bitter hybrid than anything else, but with good results.
