| 4.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Mar 5, 2007 On draft at Green Leafe, Williamsburg. Robust amber hue with a rusty tinge, delivered with a firm head that slowly settled into a thin foam cap. Light floral hoppy aroma which left me a bit off guard on the first swallow ... thick and vicuous, stiffly alcoholic with a big hop oil undertow, too. Quality brew. Strong ... but I’m glad the bartender accidentally gave me a full glass.(#2732, 3/4/2007) maniac (2628), Richmond, Virginia, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 27, 2007 Draught. Pours clear, bright copper with thin, tight beige head. The aroma is pine and citrus hops, zest, Ritz crackers, and just a little bit of diacetyl. The flavor is grapefruit and cotton candy. It mellows toward the middle and becomes more piney. Light, woody finish with general bitterness that lingers into the aftertaste. Dickinsonbeer (3499), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 25, 2007 Growler from Capones. Pours a deep copper/amber with a thin lasting sticky head. Aroma is thick and rich with tons of sweet malts, caramel, toasty and slightly nutty with tons of citrusy, minty pine with grapefruit and amarillo hops. Herbal and citrus hop flavor, sweet malts almost like a barleywine. Smooth body with a moderate pleasatn hop bitterness. NachlamSie (1650), Tennessee, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Feb 22, 2007 Draught. Pours a cloudy red with not much of a head. The nose is pretty mild and predominantly malty with a piny hop presence. Charlie 81 is medium bodied. The hops come out more in the flavor, but not with any great complexity or depth, just a good sting. Sweet caramel flavor is present along with some biscuitiness. This is basically a bigger, really well balanced amber ale and not a hop monster. Zeswaft (1000), Seattle, Washington, USA

Strong Ale from the hopmaster, John Maier. Lots of malt balanced by Horizon, Sterling & Amarillo hops. Unfiltered ale with medium body. Long hop finish. really f’n good. i just plagiarized that from monks. Moral: this is one hoppy bitch and it is good and doesn’t get enough respect. willblake (2189), Belcamp, Maryland, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 18, 2007 17.02.07 Hand-bottled sample via Dickinsonbeer. First impression of this dark amber beer is that it’s really bursting with cat pissy Amarillo and yet a rich and savory character underlies it all adding layers of depth to the aroma. Quick and dry to finish and a bit stark. Spicy and harsh but drinkable. fakepurseninja (790), Washington, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 17, 2007 Heavily bittered, spicy strong ale. A little thin with an simple malt backbone. It was okay but too little of everything with too much hops.
