zach8270 (1470), Henrietta, New York, USA Apr 5, 2008 (draft @ The Old Toad - Rochester, NY) Orange in color with a mound of puffy white foam. Aroma is rich and hoppy with some citrus at the end of it. Flavor is very bitter and hoppy with a light malt backbone and a little bit of grapefruit at the end. Finishes very smooth and bitter. Quite nice.
Glouglouburp (2114), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Sep 16, 2008 In short: Lots of fruity juicy caramel and good hops bite. A highly drinkable big american beer
How: Tap at Firewaters, Atlantic City. Yes I was at Firewaters. Don’t laugh.
The look: Clear copper body topped by a long lasting medium beige head leaving good lacing
In long: A whole lots of caramelized malts in this one. Despite its big body the beer didn’t feel heavy or sweet thanks to the citrus and pineapples flavours that made it feel juicy and even added a light tartness. Light earthy notes, a little oily. Fruity and grassy hops with a medium bitterness. No alcohol presence at all. That should be part of Rogue’s regular lineup. Very good beer. Plus we get to learn when John the head brewer made his first batch of beer. A number a women head brewer would have never put in a beer name, cause this is admitting being over forty.
WISEGUY572 (1158), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 31, 2008 I guess I am sucker for overly hopped American ales, nicely slammed with PNW American hops. This was an almost clear copper beer with a great white head and moderate lacing. The nose was of sweet malts and hops. The taste was of sweet malts, hops, alcohol, pine tar resin, orange peel, and more hops, with still more hops in the finish. Hard to believe that it is only 75 IBUs. riversideAK (1755), Shoreline, Washington, USA Jun 18, 2008 Copper color with a bubbly head. Aromas of sweet candy like malts and a good amount of citrus and earthy, peppery hops. Rather sweet up front, almost like candy, bordering cloying, but not. A big floral, citrus, and peppery finish leaves a dry mouth feel. Medium bodied. Nice and enjoyable. dmac (916), Toms River, New Jersey, USA May 10, 2008 Draft at Firewaters. Poured a clear orangey amber with a small of white head. Hop forward aroma with some nice caramel malt balancing it out. Flavor of grapefruit, alcohol and caramel. Not bad especially considering it’s been a long time since Rogue made a beer I actually enjoyed. GeneralGao (2628), Iowa City, Iowa, USA Apr 14, 2008 Draft at The Brickskeller. Poured a clear dark orange color. The head was white with good retention and left a nice sheet of lace behind. Aroma was of flowery hop and subdued caramel. Smooth mouth feel with carbonation on the low end of the spectrum. Dry on the tongue. Tasted of grapefruit rind, raw alcohol, and grass. There was moderate hop bitterness of about 5 out of 10. Decent, but somewhat overrate in my opinion.
