dkachur (2313), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA Nov 7, 2009 Draft sample from Beer Run in Charlottesville, VA. Pours a clear amber color with a large tan creamy head. Excellent head retention and lacing. Aroma is smoky and woody with some hickory-like notes. Taste is smoky with a light spicy burn that grows on the palate. Grows a bit too much actually. Some leafy hop notes. Medium bodied. Agaguk (118), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada Nov 4, 2009 Brown orange appearance with minimul taned head and light lacing. Aroma: peaches, spruce caramel, white peper malts. Flavor: chili powder, pepper, spruce, malts. Palate: light body, soft carbonation, oily with a spicy finish. CUJO (339), Brooklyn, New York, USA Oct 31, 2009 sample: RnH: Argh!!! Liquid bacon bits! Holy fried pork belly batman! I can’t say I’ve ever tried a beer like this beer (can’t say I want to again)... this was so offensive, yet strangely inviting... maybe it was the bacon! Vas19 (293), Maryland, USA Oct 29, 2009 Pours transparent brown amber with a good sized creamy off white head. The aroma is a crisp fresh version of the smell from a can of chipotles in adobo. I’m surprised that chipotle aroma is so evident. There’s a lot more chipotle flavor as well, although no heat. This is well made. It had to take some work to get this balanced. Unfortunately the chipotle flavor doesnt go over nearly as well in a beer as it does with some braised pork. Interesting, but not something I’d drink frequently. DerWeg (748), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Oct 28, 2009 Sampled at rattle n hum NYC, nice sweet malt backbone under the einevitably hot and spicy peppers. A bit herbal. phaleslu (423), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Oct 26, 2009 Bottle from Arena Liquors in Columbia, Missouri. Pours dark orange with a big beige head. Aroma was not as spicy as I’d expected, but still had chipotle pepper notes along with plenty of smoke and some sweet malts and earthy notes. Flavor of chipotle peppers, smoke, bacon, sweet malts, and chili powder. Not as spicy up front as down the pipe- I could feel more heat in my throat and chest than mouth. Light-medium bodied. Interesting enough to recommend. Pwn3d (1036), Manhattan, New York, USA Oct 22, 2009 On tap at rattle n hum. Courtesy of cujo. Tastes like bacon with a burning sting. Unique, haven’t had a brew like it.. Riotbeard (8), Birmingham, USA does not count Oct 19, 2009 12 oz. bottle. Not sure if I like this beer or just admire the interesting juxtaposition of beer and pepper. At first, the smoke flavor is overwhelming, but as you continue to drink the hint of pepper builds to a genuine spice. It was a beer that made me think, but maybe a little too much on the question of whether I actually enjoyed it.
